Every day I saw that people did not follow the rules, despite inductions and training they still acted unsafely, they still took risks and they still did not always behave with care and concern for everyone else on the site. Two safety training rooms were built and equipped for safety and induction training, safety meetings, etc. 

Training courses were the most formal sources of information about health and safety provided by BR for its staff. All staff were meant to receive some occupational health and safety training as part of their induction course. Thereafter there were courses, videos, and seminars on specific topics. Staff were questioned about whether or not they had received this health and safety training. If they had, they were asked about how useful they had found it. If they had not received training, they were asked if they would have found it useful. 

Supervisory and management health and safety training follows similar topics to those contained in an induction training course but will be covered In more depth. 

Safety training is not just a matter of handing out booklets - it is unwise to assume anything about people s previous experiences in construction work, or even their ability to read and understand instructions and information. Safety awareness is not inherited, and induction training on sites is required to make sure that everyone knows what the hazards and the control measures are.

Check whether for the various levels of personnel there is an induction training for all new-hires, a formal training and refresher training in the area of quality, safety, job skill improvement and so on.

Burt and Stevenson (2009) and Burt et al. (2009) examined employees perceptions of organizational processes and how these are associated with their reactions to new employees. Perceptions of recruit and selection processes are discussed in Chap. 5, and perceptions of socialization and prestart training processes are discussed in Chap. 6. Both chapters note how a perception that organizational processes helps ensure safety can be associated with a lowering of risk perceptions, a decrease in behaviors which should ensure safety, and thus an overall increase in workplace safety risk.
