Card indexing

These subjects have been reviewed up the year 1975 in various works. Prij s Card Index (363) of thiazole compounds provides swift access to information on individual compounds. Syntheses of thiazoles have been carefully reviewed by Wiley etal. (361), and in 1957 the subject was dealt with in an excellent survey by Sprague and Land (448). [Pg.167]

My first incursion into organo-transition metal chemistry occurred because of my interest in chemical bonding. How did olefins with no lone pair of electrons form coordinate bonds to metal atoms The position in 1941 can be read in Keller s review on olefin complexes 54). During the war years I was able to assemble a card index of all references to olefin complexes and I convinced myself that they should be formulated as chelate complexes of, for example, structure (VII) for Zeise s ion if chlorine could bridge metal atoms why should it not bridge carbon to a metal Nature rejected my letter on this topic as being... [Pg.6]

Midway along the front wall, one finds a useful patentee and assignee card index arranged in alphabetical order, listing for each patent issued since 1931 name of the inventor (s) and assignee, if any, patent and application numbers, date of issue of the patent, and the title of the invention. [Pg.205]

A useful list of subclass numbers can likewise be compiled, with the use of the classification card index, by means of a list of pertinent patent numbers found in Chemical Abstracts, books, or review articles. [Pg.205]

The original list of indexes to be examined should be reviewed at this point and revised if necessary on the basis of the additional knowledge obtained in the review of the books and the like. In fact, both the list of sources to be examined and the subject headings to be used should be repeatedly checked and revised as the search progresses. The searcher may wish to start the indexes with the special card index in the library, if this is sufficiently complete. If a more exhaustive search is required, the searcher would start from here with the most comprehensive indexes available. [Pg.247]

Owing to a chain of misfortunes, this subject has not been reviewed since Volume 9. Consequently the present survey has to cover the literature from autumn 1978 to that dated 31.12.81 (as recorded in Chemical Abstracts and Current Contents up to 1.6.82). Dr A. F. Thomas of Firmenich SA, Geneva, kindly gave access to his card index covering the period and we are extremely grateful to him we also thank the Royal Society of Chemistry for providing selected abstracts. [Pg.3]

Indexes to German Industrial Reports. The major portion of the German chemical industry was controlled by I. G. Farbenindustrie. Not only did FIAT members prepare indexes to some of the I. G. Farben material copied (18-21), but FIAT also copied I. G. Farbenindustrie s own extensive card index files, which include structure, trade name literature, and LG. Farbenindustrie report references, and cover such subjects as dyes, plastics, and organic chemicals. A list which includes the 45 PB reports comprising this series, and their prices, is available from OTS (17). [Pg.480]

Extensive correlation card indexes are maintained in the OTS offices, and mail and phone inquiries will be answered from these files. [Pg.482]

From his own card-index, which he considered more accurate for the earlier period (though less so for later stages in the development of the subject), Coulson felt that the number of papers published in the 1930"s might be twice that suggested by A. Streitwieser in the preface to Molecular-Orbital Theory for Organic Chemists. Wiley, New York, 1961. [Pg.191]

A literature-search profile for a complete retrieval of all PES ionization energies ever recorded for silicon-containing molecules is difficult to design. The excerpt from the DOW CORNING data file, generously provided by Dr. W. Atwell, comprised 330 entries, which were compared to the card index collected over the years at our institute, and in a few cases complemented. References to all PES investigations of Si compounds not included will be appreciated. [Pg.650]

One chooses the cards corresponding to the characteristics he wants to identify, places the cards in a stack above a light source, and searches for the spots of light that identify those spectra having all the characteristics in common. To produce the Termatrex cards one can obtain information from the ASTM card index. [Pg.539]

The list of secondary sources reviewing the chemistry of thiazoles previously given is supplemented by the following publications. Prijs Card Index of Thiazole Compounds provides swift access to information on individual compounds, but its appearance has unfortunately not continued. Asinger and Oflfermanns have reviewed the chemistry of A -thiazolines, within the framework of a full account of their versatile synthesis of heterocyclic compounds by the simultaneous action of sulphur and amines on ketones. Ohta and Kato s comprehensive survey on sydnones includes a section on mesionic thiazoles. [Pg.587]
