Incorporation index

We may define an incorporation index (II) for each atomic element m as... [Pg.700]

In a diamond reactor, for example, the incorporation index for carbon should be as high as possible. However, the incorporation index for hydrogen should be kept low, since it is usually an unwanted impurity. [Pg.700]

Molybdenum Oxide. Molybdenum compounds incorporated into flexible PVC not only increase flame resistance, but also decrease smoke evolution. In Table 10 the effect of molybdenum oxide on the oxygen index of a flexible PVC containing 50 parts of a plasticizer is compared with antimony oxide. Antimony oxide is the superior synergist for flame retardancy but has Httle or no effect on smoke evolution. However, combinations of molybdenum oxide and antimony oxide may be used to reduce the total inorganic flame-retardant additive package, and obtain improved flame resistance and reduced smoke. [Pg.460]

Alkylated aromatics have excellent low temperature fluidity and low pour points. The viscosity indexes are lower than most mineral oils. These materials are less volatile than comparably viscous mineral oils, and more stable to high temperatures, hydrolysis, and nuclear radiation. Oxidation stabihty depends strongly on the stmcture of the alkyl groups (10). However it is difficult to incorporate inhibitors and the lubrication properties of specific stmctures maybe poor. The alkylated aromatics also are compatible with mineral oils and systems designed for mineral oils (see Benzene Toulene Xylenes and ethylbenzene). ... [Pg.264]

Chemical modification of the wax can improve smear resistance (5). Sihcones, which do not harm furniture finishes (6), are incorporated as film-forming ingredients in furniture pohshes. The lubricant properties of sihcones improve ease of apphcation of the pohsh and removal of insoluble soil particles. In addition, sihcones make dry films easier to buff and more water-repeUent, and provide depth of gloss, ie, abihty to reflect a coherent image as a result of a high refractive index (7). Wax-free pohshes, which have sihcones as the only film former, can be formulated to dehver smear resistance (8). Another type of film former commonly used in oil-base furniture pohshes is a mineral or vegetable oil, eg, linseed oil. [Pg.209]

Formulations should be based on stoichiometric considerations. Based on a knowledge of the hydroxyl value of the polyol the amount of isocyanate necessary to cause chain growth should be calculated. The gas evolved will depend on the water content and additional isocyanate must be incorporated corresponding to the water present. When the isocyanate used equals the theoretical amount the system is said to have a TDI index of 100. In practice a slight excess of isocyanate is used (TDI index 105-110) to ensure complete... [Pg.797]

If there are specific data germane to the assumption of dose-additivity (e g., if two compounds arc present at the same site and it is known that the combination is five times more toxic than the sum of the toxicitics for the two compounds), then tire development of the hazard index should be modified accordingly. The reader can refer to the EPA (1986b) mi.xiure guidelines for discussion of a hazjird index equation that incorporates quantitative interaction data. If data on chemical interactions are available, but arc not adequate to support a quantitative assessment, note the information in the assumptions being documented for the risk assessment. [Pg.401]

Information on the electronic configuration of each nonhydrogen atom is incorporated in the second order atomic index (S ) of the atom. [Pg.26]

The Key Terms in the chapter If a particular term is unfamiliar, refer to the index at the back of the book. You will find the term in the glossary that is incorporated in the index and also the pages in the text where it appears (if you need more explanation). [Pg.729]

The general equation for the gel effect index, equation (la) which incorporates chain transfer, was used in those cases where there was not a good agreement between model predictions and experimental data. The same values of and (derived from the values of and C2 found at high rates) were used in the integration of equation (1) and the value of the constant of chain transfer to monomer, C, was taken as an adjustable parameter and used to minimize tfie error of fitting the time-conversion data by the model. [Pg.370]

There have been no further developments in this area, apart from the issue of the first indexes (to volume 71) of Chemical Abstracts, fully incorporating Registry Numbers. [Pg.451]

Incorporating the Kirtas system with the International Plant Names Index and SNOW-MED allows movement of the historic text into an electronic format, identihcation of current plant names, and identihcation of the symptoms treated with the plants. To complete the mining of historic herbal texts for novel drug leads we use the Natural Products Alert (NAPRALERT ) database to compare the information extracted from the historic herbal text to the reports of plant use in the current literature. The NAPRALERT database provides a summary of plants ethnopharmacological use, biochemical activities, and isolated compounds [27]. By querying each plant (with the current plant name) it is possible to identify any reports in the current literature regarding the plant. As an example, Table 4.1 shows the NAPRALERT output for Cycas rumphii. [Pg.114]

Kier and HaU extended the definition of the 5 connectivity index in order to incorporate heteroatoms and multiple bonds in the definition of the connectivity index % [13-15]. They noticed that the 5 connectivity (atom degree) may be expressed as ... [Pg.88]

Incorporate other measures to track disease progress. Use radiography to assess severity of joint destruction, determine 50-ft walking time and grip strength, and administer the Western Ontario and McMaster University Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) and the Stanford Health Assessment Questionnaire, where appropriate, to assess activities of daily living. [Pg.889]

To assess the potential hazard of a new plant, the index can be calculated after the Piping and Instrumentation and equipment layout diagrams have been prepared. In earlier versions of the guide the index was then used to determine what preventative and protection measures were needed, see Dow (1973). In the current version the preventative and protection measures, that have been incorporated in the plant design to reduce the hazard-are taken into account when assessing the potential loss in the form of loss control credit factors. [Pg.371]
