Human relations skills

Communication is the lifeblood of any relationship. Relationships prosper almost entirely through your ability to communicate. No matter how good your other human-relations skills may be, without good communication skills, your life will be lacking. 

This project helped fine-tune my technical skills, but it also improved my human relations skills by requiring me to interact with a variety of people—from janitors to senior administrators. It gave me a great deal of satisfaction to see how practical and useful my undergraduate education had been. 

Communication and human relation skills remain key to achieving safety results. Hazard control focuses on accomplishing the job with safety.

The craftspersons employed should be trained and should initially demonstrate a satisfactory level of skill in their craft. Certain crafts, such as welding, require periodic requalification and authorization to demonstrate that the individual continues to have the necessary skills. Retraining may be necessary for this purpose. The craftspersons should also be trained to understand plant systems and equipment as appropriate to their task. A system should be in place to ensure that craftspersons do use or refresh safety related skills before they start to work, in order to minimize the potential risks to the plant and personnel. This not only will lead to more efficient use of human resources but also may enable variations between the radiation doses to different individuals to be minimized. 

I propose to define a REAL, that is, professional, ENGINEER as one who has attained and continuously enhances technical, communications, and human relations knowledge, skills, and attitudes, and who contributes effectively to society by theorizing, conceiving, developing, and producing reliable structures and machines of practical and economic value. 

Why would good human relations and communications skills help motivate people to act... 

Individual operator competencies are also often discussed in relation to the Skill, Rule, and Knowledge (SRK) framework. Vicente (1999) described three hierarchical levels of human behavior skill-, rule-, and knowledge-based behaviors. Each of the levels within the SRK framework defines a different level of cognitive control or human action. Skill-based behavior occurs in routine situations that require highly practiced and automatic behavior and where there is only small conscious control on behalf of the operator. Skill-based behavior consists of smooth, automated, and highly integrated patterns of action that are performed without conscious attention. 

To understand the nature of the DWI problem and its countermeasures, it is necessary to first discuss the process by which alcohol affects various human functions, and the effects it has on driving and driving related skills. I then address the impact of drinking on crashes, and the various countermeasures that have been used to reduce the problem. 

But that same survey pointed to numerous skills and beliefs EHS pros already possess staff and team management, communication skills, analytical rigor, influencing strategy, facilitation skills, networking, managing unpredictability, tenacity, warmth in human relations, and science as part of the solution.
