Household articles

HDPE is used in the manufacture of toys and other household articles. Because of its high tensile strength and stiffness polyethylene is also for many other purposes. 

The growth rate of the use of particulate filled polymers is very fast in all fields of application [ 1 ]. Household articles and automotive parts are equally prepared from them. In the early stages, the sole reason for the introduction of fillers was to decrease the price of the polymer. However, as a result of filling all properties of the polymer change, a new polymer is in fact created. Some characteristics improve, while others deteriorate, and properties must be optimized to utilize all potentials of particulate filling. Optimization must include all aspects of the composites from component properties, through structure and especially interactions. 

The KA 1 grade is used for making translucent industrial and household articles which are not intended to be in contact with food products (scales, wiring accessories). 

Numerous articles are made by compression moulding, such as bulb fittings, switches, wall-plugs, crockery, and many other technical and household articles. The process is very economical, since no expensive machines and moulds are required, while cycle times are short (the finished article can be taken from the mould without cooling down). 

These plastics have high strength and stiffness and are particularly suitable for the manufacture of microwave dishes, hot water containers and other household articles. The uptake of water by polysulfones influences the mechanical properties in a similar manner to PA. One obtains particularly good heat resistance with polyimide plastic... 

Enamel is a special form of glass, used particularly for covering cast iron. The preparation of a good, acid-proof enamel is difficult, and a double coating is often used on manufacturing equipment. The enamel used is not as attractive as that used on household articles, but is much more resistant. An enameled apparatus with a defect in only one spot must almost always be removed, and, therefore, extreme care is required in its use. Metal stirrers are never used in enameled vessels — only wood is used. Very complicated enameled equipment is made and is very expensive. Enameled ladles are widely used.

Despite the partial restrictions imposed on TBT by most countries, it is estimated that around 1200 tons yr" of TBT are used for the protection of ship hulls [135]. Exposure of humans to butyltin compounds used as stabilizers or as biocides in household articles has been regarded as one of the sources. Widespread usage of the organotin compounds motivated numerous studies in order to elucidate environmental contamination and impacts [135-138]. 

Use As perfume in household articles (soaps, cleaners, washing powders). 

Use For perfuming household articles, for technical perfuming for aromatizing confectionery ( eucalyptus sweets ) and oral hygiene products in medicine for rhinologic, balneotherapy, mouth and throat, broncho-logical, expectorant, and antirheumatic ointment uses as starting material for pure 1,8-cineole. 

Use For perfuming household articles, as starting material for the isolation of pure citronellal, which is also used in perfume industry or for production of other fragrance substances by chemical reactions. 

Fir and pine needle oils. General term for the "essential oils, obtained by steam distillation from needles (branch tips, young shoots) of various Pinaceae species of the genera Pinus, Abies, Picea, and Tsuga. They mostly possess a fresh, resiny odor and consist mainly of monoterpene hydrocarbons such as pi-nenes, phellandrenes (see p-menthadienes), cam-phene, myrcene, 3- carene, and limonene (see p-menthadienes). The component mainly responsible for the odor is (-)-bornyl acetate (C12H20O2, Mr 196.29) which can be present, as in Siberian pine needle oil, to more than 30%. The oils are used in the production of perfumes for men, for perfuming household articles like cleaners, bath products, sauna oils, and in pharmaceutical preparations such as anti-rheumatic oint-... 

Based on the same approach, we are investigating the possibility to prepare by a low-temperature process, a broadband (covering the visible spectral range), abrasion- and environmentally-resistant AR-coating. Such a product might preferentially serve household articles uses. 

The first full-scale low-pressure HDPE plant was erected by Farbwerke Hoechst AG in Germany in late 1955. Plastic Technology reported, in September 1955, that this Hostalen resin, with a density of 0.94 g/cc, was the talk of the Hanover Industrial Pair in Germany, where it was shown for the first time in applications such as film, pipe, tubing, and moulded household articles. This first Ziegler plant was brought on stream by Hoechst in late 1956 and the second one in 1957 in the USA, by Hercules. 

It follows that linear polymer films will have poor resistance to solvents (present in many household articles, e.g. nail varnish). Cross-linked films will be more resistant. 

Poly ethersulphone. An amorphous thermoplastic with a chemical structure as shown in Figure 1.3. Transparent in its original form. Service temperature of end-products is up to approximately 180 °C. Examples of applications transparent parts of household articles and appliances, switches, hot water meter components, electronic parts. Trade name Victrex PES (UK). The industrial plastic polysulphone is also a poly-ethersulphone in the chemical sense. 

Viscose, Aqueous solution of cellulose xanthogenate. In the coagulating bath, viscose again becomes cellulose as a filament, film, or sponge. Viscose filament is one of the man-made fibres, viscose film is a packaging material, viscose sponge is a household article. 

Brass is an attractive yellow metal which is also used for decorative household articles and jewellery. The combined properties of being an attractive metal which is highly resistant to corrosion make it a popular metal for ships furnishings. 

As an ornamental material, gold began to be used from time immemorial. During excavations of pyramids of all dynasties in Egypt archaeologists found in great numbers not only gold jewelry but also household articles. 

Natural rubber is derived from latex obtained from the sap of rubber trees. Its use ranges from household articles to industrial products. Tire and tube industries are the largest consumers of rubber and the remaining are taken up by general rubber goods (GRG) sector. A number of research studies have been carried out in the recent past on fabrication and characterization of OPF-NR composites. 

Applications. The applications are automotive components, circuit breaker housings, brush holders, commercial connectors, battery racks, business machine housings, marine structures, and household articles.
