Meningitis hemorrhagic

A few cases of severe purulent meningeal reactions to iopamidol have been briefly described (84). In one exceptional report, a hemorrhagic meningeal reaction and... [Pg.1859]

Suggested Alternatives for Differential Diagnosis Abdominal aneurysm, aortic dissection, pleural effusion, subarachnoid hemorrhage, superior vena cava syndrome, hantavirus pulmonary syndrome, mediastinitis, fulminate mediastinal tumors pneumonia, gastroenteritis, meningitis, ecthyma, rat bite fever, spider bite, leprosy, plague, tularemia, coccidioidomycosis, diphtheria, glanders, histoplasmosis, psittacosis, typhoid fever, and rickettsial pox. [Pg.499]

Suggested Alternatives for Differential Diagnosis Meningitis, basilar artery blood clots (thrombosis), cardioembolic stroke, cavernous sinus syndromes, cerebral venous blood clots (thrombosis), confusional states and acute memory disorders, epileptic and epileptiform encephalopathies, febrile seizures, haemophilus meningitis, intracranial hemorrhage, leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, subdural pus (empyema), or bruise (hematoma). [Pg.537]

Morphine releases histamine and may cause peripheral vasodilation and orthostatic hypotension (Figure 47.7). The cutaneous blood vessels dilate around the blush areas such as the face, neck, and upper thorax. Morphine causes cerebral vasodilation (due to increased carbon dioxide retention secondary to respiratory depression), and hence, it increases the cerebrospinal fluid pressure. Therefore, morphine should be used cautiously in patients with either meningitis or a recent head injury. When given subcutaneously, morphine is absorbed poorly whenever there is either traumatic or hemorrhagic shock. [Pg.459]

Neurological involvement in Behcet s disease may be subclassified into two major forms a vascular-inflammatory process with focal or multifocal parenchymal involvement and a cerebral venous sinus thrombosis with intracranial hypertension. The vasculitis and meningitis may affect cerebral arteries, particularly in the posterior circulation, to cause ischemic stroke and possibly intracranial hemorrhage (Farah et al. 1998 Krespi et al 2001 Siva et al. 2004 Borhani Haghighi et al. 2005). [Pg.73]

Some rarer adverse effects, such as aseptic meningitis, have been reported with ibuprofen, suhndac, and tolmetin (37) in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus. A case-control study showed no increased risk of intracerebral hemorrhage in patients using aspirin or other NSAIDs in low dosages as prophylaxis against thrombosis (43). [Pg.2560]

Uveitis in combination with meningitis (47) and uveitis in combination with arthritis and Stevens-Johnson syndrome (48) have been reported with trimethoprim. Uveitis with retinal hemorrhages has also been described (49). [Pg.3511]

Increased Permeability. The permeability of the blood-CSF barrier to plasma proteins is increased by high intracranial pressure resulting from a brain tumor, intracerebral hemorrhage, or traumatic injury. In addition, increased permeability to proteins is seen with inflammation associated with bacterial or viral meningitis, encephalitis, or... [Pg.578]
