Labeling hazard

A critical aspect of chemical industry product labeling is the fact of government regulation of many of the products which are considered to be potentially hazardous to consumers and/or workers. Such products are subject to various federal, state and local laws and ordinances which in many instances mandate the inclusion of specific warnings on product labels. These warnings describe the hazards and inform the user as to proper use procedures, actions to be taken in the event of exposure to hazard, first aid or medical advice, and disposal procedures, all in addition to whatever other material the seller might wish to include on the product label. 

The need for hazard labeling obviously complicates the task of label design and placement in containers since products fall under various rules and regulations. Some require specific language and graphics to be incorporated in the label text others state a performance standard and leave the specifics to the manufacturer. On the basis of the EU labeling criteria according to the 12th Harmonization Directive 91/325/EEC, alkanesulfonates require no environmental hazard labeling. 

EU TIGHTENS RULES ON HAZARD LABELLING TDI SUPPLIERS RESPOND... 

Amendments to the EC Directives regulating the reclassification of free isocyanate levels came into effect on January 1. Underthe new regulations, TDI prepolymers must be labelled according to the content of free TDI. In preparation for the new regulations, suppliers have been moving to offer finished products with lower levels of free TDI, if possible, to below the minimum required level for hazard labelling.
