In the author s experience, field residue trials can be conducted in Latin America under complete compliance with all ERA guidelines and recommendations. More time does need to be spent in planning and preparation to ensure that the personnel involved in the testing have been trained in GLP and that this training, as well as the compliance of equipment, storage and archival sites, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality assurance (QA) audits, are properly documented.

In addition to the regulations under 21 CFR, the FDA publishes Guidance for Industry and documents called Points to Consider (PTCs) as guidelines and recommendations to industry to adopt as part of the compliance program. 

Some guidelines and recommendations are discussed below, together with a few examples of their application. The books by Buckley (Techniques of Process Control, Wiley, 1964) and Shinskey (Process-Control Systems, McGraw-Hill, 1967) arc highly recommended for additional coverage of this important topic. 

Development of standards, guidelines, and recommendations for veterinary drug residues in food has been delegated by CAC to its subsidiary body, the Codex Committee on Residues of Veterinary Drugs in Foods (CCRVDF), which is more routinely involved in risk management. The work of this subcommittee is mainly supported by tire Joint FAOAVHO Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA). 

It follows that it is difficult to plan rational public health activities because no accepted causality exists for most of the effects observed indoors and that often no quantification or prediction of the effects of mitigation can be made based on rational criteria.
