Growth optional

While internal improvement efforts such as cost reductions need to be continued, the main challenge of the industry will be to maintain the stable growth in volumes it has exhibited in the past. With the importance of the old welding and cutting customers slowly eroding and many of the traditional applications maturing, the industry must be ready to look for alternative growth options. [Pg.145]

One very simple analysis for assessing future expectations is to calculate the split of a company s share price into the part which will be derived from the business as it is at present and the part which will come from organic growth. The value of the business as is can be interpreted as the (hypothetical) value of the business if all additional investments were stopped and all earnings were distributed to the owners. The - usually positive - difference between this value and the company s share price can be interpreted as the value of the company s growth options (Pig. 2.5). [Pg.22]

On top of that, they have to create new viable growth options. Credible moves in this area will potentially lift market expectations to new levels, resulting in a higher P/E ratio. [Pg.23]

Corporate centers are better positioned than business units to initiate and drive selected cross-business themes or initiatives such as procurement, e-commerce or innovation/venturing. They can pool the necessary skills and build competence in areas where BUs do not have critical mass (e.g., business development in China, leveraging biotechnology in chemicals, e-commerce). They can also provide incubators for growth options or build up corporate venture funds, dedicating intellectual and financial resources to selected projects that can help individual businesses secure their long term growth. [Pg.65]

The high capital cost, about 1500/kW, is the principal deterrent to growth of the IGCC concept. The abiUty to remove up to 99% of the sulfur species from the combustion products make the IGCC an environmentally desirable option as make calcium carbide (see Carbides), from which acetjiene is made. Synthesis gas for methanol and ammonia production is also made from gasification of coke. [Pg.235]

Combustion Combustion of industrial and municipal waste is an attractive waste management option because it reduces the volume of waste by 70 to 90 percent. In the face of shrinking landfill availabihty, municipal waste combustion capacity in the United States has grown at an astonishing rate, significantly faster than the growth rate for municipal refuse generation. [Pg.2243]

The options themselves invoke different controls and philosophies. The main techniques may be categorized according to whether they deal with the nutrients directly, or whether they interfere with the physical growth environment, or whether they invoke some form of biological remediation. [Pg.35]

Internal bubble growth occurs because flaws at an elastomer-substrate interface act as nucleation sites where gas which is coming out of solution in the mbber can collect, following a reduction in pressure. If there are flaw sites, based on energy considerations, gas will take the easiest option— which is to collect at an already preexisting bubble and cause it to grow. [Pg.647]

The basic classification of CWs is based on the type of flow regime and macrophytic growth. In general terms, two types can be described (Figure 10.3). The selection of the most appropriate option shall be according to various operational factors and to the plants available in the region of... [Pg.394]

Second, the book includes sections on pain control, antibiotic use in neutropenic fever, antiemetic guidelines, and supportive care medications. The book continues with a section on drugs used in commonly encountered problems in hematology, and concludes with a listing of the wholesale costs of most chemotherapy agents. The rapid growth of chemotherapeutic options will make frequent updates of this handbook essential for the future state-of-the-art care of our patients. [Pg.3]
