Grouts

The well pad provides a ground seal around the casing. The pad is constructed of reinforced concrete 6 x 6 ft (6 inches thick) with the well head located in the middle. The well pad prevents contaminants from collecting around the well and seeping down into the ground along the casing. 

Screens can be installed at the intake points on the end of a well casing or on the end of the inner casing on gravel-packed wells. These screens perform two functions (1) supporting the borehole, and (2) reducing the amount of

Methylol Formation. Polyacrylamide reacts with formaldehyde to form an /V-methylo1 derivative. The reaction is conducted at pH 7—8.8 to avoid cross-linking, which will occur at lower pH. The copolymer can also be prepared by copolymerizing acrylamide with commercially available A/-methylolacrylamide [924-42-5] C4H2NO2. These derivatives are useful in several mining appHcations (49,50). They are also useful as chemical grouts.

Soil Stabilization/Grouting. Sodium sihcates have been used in soil stabih2ation for most of the twentieth century. This usage represents the largest market in Japan in the mid-1990s. Sodium sihcates can be used for water control and soil stabih2ation in tunneling and excavation projects.
