In more recent years, molded flexible foam products are becoming more popular. The bulk of the molded flexible urethane foam is employed in the transportation industry, where it is highly suitable for the manufacture of seat cushions, back cushions, and bucket-seat padding. TDI prepolymers were used in flexible foam mol ding ia conjunction with polyether polyols. The transportation industry has many of the worldwide auto producers represented in seven Latin American countries. Urethane structural adhesives have been very popular for bonding of plastics to plastics and plastics to metal by the transportation industry. As an example, more than 90% of the bonds in Fords experimental graphite car were urethane adhesives rather than rivets or welds. Urethane structural adhesives have been used by the transportation industry since 1969. It is estimated that 5 million pounds of urethane structural adhesives were used in the transportation industry in the United States in 1979. Some of the advantages of urethane adhesives as used by the transportation industry are shown in Table IX.

Since the introduction of the first polysulfide sealants in the 1950s, the sealant market had grown by 1992 into a 1.4 billion industry. Sealant use is generally divided into four categories transportation, construction, consumer, and industrial. Table 9 lists the market segment value of each use as of 1992 and Table 10 the market share of the various material types. In terms of glued-laminated timber, the different layers are manufactured using polyaddition-curing urethanes. This process is accomplished by a prefabrication of the building members comparable to other industrial manufacturing techniques. The beams and girders are ready-made in the factory before they are transported to the construction site.
