Gloss ASTM

The standard test method utilizes a light source directed toward the sample surface at a specified incidence angle (e.g., 60°). The angle used depends on whether it is a high-or low-gloss surface. The quantity of reflected light is measured by a photosensitive receptor and correlates to the gloss value of the film. [Pg.112]

For the above polyol blend viscosity (Brookfield, ASTM D-2196) = 1500 mPa-S at 23° C. For the reaction mixture working (pot) life 20 min Gardner circular dry times [72°F, 54% relative humidity (RH)] surface dry = 1.0 h, hard dry = 2.0 h, mar free = 3.5 h. For the finished coating gloss (ASTM D-523) = 90+ at 60° impact (ASTM D-2794) = 60 in.-lb direct, 10 in.-lb reverse Tabor abrasion (ASTMD-4060,1000 g load, 1000cycles, CS-17 wheel) = 95.6 mg pendulum hardness = 180 s MEK double rubs (ASTM D4752-95, 50 double rubs) = softened. [Pg.253]

In flexible vinyl compounds, gloss is usually controlled with 1-3 phr of fine particle silica or talc, occasionally with ceramic microspheres. Measured gloss (ASTM D523) is, however, often lower in plasticized compounds if 2-5 percent acrylic impact modifier is used instead. This approach provides lower haze, generally better physical properties, and reduced equipment wear. The use of fine-pailicle fillers is preferable in cases where it is also operating to reduce plateout. [Pg.150]

Floor poHshes typically are evaluated for gloss, appHcation and leveling properties, discoloration, sHp resistance, scratch resistance, heel-mark resistance, scuff resistance, damp-mopping and detergent resistance, repairabiHty, lack of sediment, and removabiHty (3). RecoatabiHty and formula stabiHty are also important. A review of test methods is available (35). More than 20 ASTM test methods for floor poHshes exist. From the standpoint of product safety, sHp resistance is a particularly important variable and many test methods are available (39). [Pg.210]

The gloss is measured before (ASTM D-1834) and after (ASTM D-2895) aging the sample for 1 and 7 days in an oven at 40°C (104°F). The specified aging conditions are intended to correlate with the conditions likely to occur in the handling and storage of waxed paper and paperboard. [Pg.310]
