Standards gaskets

Extmsion techniques are used to make tubes, rods, gaskets, preforms, etc. Standard mbber equipment may be used to extmde fluorosihcone elastomers. The green strength of fluorosihcones is less than that of typical fluorocarbon elastomers, and this should be considered when designing the feed system. 

Fittings. Fittings connect pipes and provide for the attachment of equipment to change flow direction. They must be easily cleaned inside and out, have no exposed pipe threads, and, if of the detachable type, have an appropriate gasket. The fittings are constmcted of the same or similar materials as the pipeline and are installed on tubing. Standard shapes and sizes are specified by the 3A Standards Committee. 

Specifications and Standards Test Methods. Ethylcellulose is cleared foi many apphcations in food and food contact under the Eedeial Eood, Dmg, and Cosmetic Act, as amended. Examples include binder in dry vitamin preparations for animal feed, coatings and inks for paper and paperboard products used in food packaging, and closures with sealing gaskets for food containers (44). Methods of analyses ate given in ASTM D914-72 (19), NationalFonmila XIV, and Food Chemicals Codex II.

The recently developed modified PTFE (e.g., Teflon NXT), because of its improved processing, lower creep, improved permeation, less porosity and better insulation than standard PTFE, finds use in pipe and vessel linings, gaskets and seals, fluid-handling components, wafer processing, and electric and electronic industries. An example of a molded part from modified PTFE is shown in Figure 4.15.
