Barring the inaccessibility of truly classified information. Current Topics in Elastomers Research is a complete review of the current state-of-the-science of elastomers research and applications, compiling once-guarded knowledge and outlining the future directions of the field. [Pg.1087]

Writing here in a popular and well illustrated style, leading young scientists describe their research and give their visions offuture developments. The book conveys the excitement and enthusiasm ofthe young authors. It offers definitive reviews for people with a general interest in the future directions of science, ranging from researchers to scientifically minded school children. [Pg.208]

L/evelopment of sophisticated surface analytical techniques over the past two decades has revived interest in the study of phenomena that occur at the electrode-solution interface. As a consequence of this renewed activity, electrochemical surface science is experiencing a rapid growth in empirical information. The symposium on which this book was based brought together established and up-and-coming researchers from the three interrelated disciplines of electrochemistry, surface science, and metal-cluster chemistry to help provide a better focus on the current status and future directions of research in electrochemistry. The symposium was part of the continuing series on Photochemical and Electrochemical Surface Science sponsored by the Division of Colloid and Surface Chemistry of the American Chemical Society. [Pg.558]

Future directions can be divided into experimental and numerical. The two most obvious experimental directions are (i) extensions to CD spectroscopies so that comparable system identification of stereo-selective systems can be realized and (ii) extension to NMR since it is the most widespread analytical technique in the chemical sciences. Efforts in both directions are currently underway in our laboratory. [Pg.188]

In this chapter we shall first describe RDF and OWL, the grammar of the Semantic Web, and then move on to identifiers, the vocabulary of the Semantic Web, and ontologies, which represent the real-world knowledge required to make use of the grammar and vocabulary. We will concentrate on practical chemistry- and biochemistry-orientated deployments of Semantic Web technology rather than the computer science behind it. Then we will cover some case studies Web services, databases, and semantic publishing in the forms of Semantic Eye and RSC Project Prospect. We will briefly cover what the Semantic Web has to offer for experimental data before finishing up with some possible future directions. [Pg.152]

The objective of this chapter is to describe some of the key trends, driving forces, and challenges that will set the future direction of the rapidly advancing field of silicon-based materials. In the process of identifying these key trends, two assumptions were made. The first assumption is that commercial applications will be a major impetus for the development of silicon-based polymers. The response of the late Philip Handler, former head of the National Academy of Science, to a question on science spending corroborates this assumption. Handler s reply (3) was... [Pg.754]

The handbook will appear over several years with a total of ten to fifteen volumes. Each volume of the series will be devoted to a specific sub-field of the fundamentals or application of molecular sieve materials and contain five to ten articles authored by renowned experts upon invitation by the editors. These articles are meant to present the state of the art from a scientific and, where applicable, from an industrial point of view, to discuss critical pivotal issues and to outline future directions of research and development in this sub-field. To fhis end, fhe series is infended as an up-to-date highly sophisticated collection of information for those who have already been dealing with zeolites in industry or at academic institutions. Moreover, by emphasizing the description and critical assessment of experimental techniques which have been used in molecular sieve science, the series is also meant as a guide for newcomers, enabling them to collect reliable and relevant experimental data. [Pg.409]
