Foliar Fungicides and Bactericides. Of the - 70,000 t/yr as copper in compounds used in agriculture, almost 75% is used in the control of fungi (see Fungicides, agricultural). The first reference to the use of copper as a fungicide dates to 1761 (83) where copper sulfate was used on wheat seed for the control of bunt. In 1807 (84) the discovery of copper as a fungicide was made and the discovery of Bourdeaux mixture (copper sulfate plus lime) followed in 1882. 

Pesticides affect the content of microelements and other substances in plants, thus changing their nutritive value, as well as their ability to be stored. This was detected for OCPs in grain and legume harvests. For example, wheat crops treated with some fungicides (zineb, bayleton, and propicanazol) to fight stem rust (Puccirda) produce a lower quality of bread [3].

AUelopathic activity toward germinating wheat Was clearly demonstrated with extracts of Oklahoma soils. However, a convincing difference in activities in notill and conventional-till soil has not yet appeared. The total ion current chromatograms (Figures la and 2a) of the CGC/MS/DA illustrate the complexity of the soil extracts. Some of these compounds, if isolated, may serve as new effective biodegradable insecticides, herbicides, or fungicides. 

Anilazine is a 1,3,5-triazine used as a foliar fungicide to control a broad range of fungal pathogens in vegetables, turf, wheat, coffee and ornamentals. 

The extraction of two typical agricultural products from environmental matrices were chosen as examples for the operation of this system. Diuron, a phenylmethylurea, was freshly spiked onto Tama soil. This soil was characterized and shown to have 3.1% organic material and 14 % clay fraction. In addition, a phenyl metabolite of NUSTAR, a systemic fungicide, on wheat previously unextractable by SFE was extracted. The wheat sample was not classified for its chemical composition. Both samples were treated with radiolabeled compounds (E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, Du Pont Agricultural Products, Wilmington, DE) and extraction results are from liquid scintillation counting of the sample extract. Chromatographic evaluation of the Diuron from soil extracts has previously been published (2).
