Functionalized polysiloxanes

Thermal cure system. The thermal cure system is based on a hydrosilylation addition reaction between vinyl-functionalized and silicon-hydrido functionalized polysiloxanes [32,33,35], Unsaturated organic groups react with a Si-H functionality in the presence of a platinum-based catalyst (Scheme 10). [Pg.686]

Hydrolysis of 1 is carried out at room temperature by the slow addition of aqueous NH3 at 0°C (Scheme 2). The resulting hydroxyl end-functional polysiloxane (2) is dispersed as fine droplets in the aqueous medium and can be separated by centrifugation. When neat, 2 is a colorless fluid with molecular weight ranging from... [Pg.201]

The compounds I and II represent intermediates for the synthesis of either carboxy functional or amino functional polysiloxanes. To this end I or II is either saponified with sodium hydroxide and concomitantly polycon-densated to a poly(carboxylaIky1 methyl siloxane) (III) or reduced to an amino alkyl methyl dialkoxy silane with sodium borohydride (J 5). ... [Pg.344]

In this study, two Deloxan Metal Scavengers were investigated. The first, THP II, is a thiourea functionalized polysiloxane while the second, MP, is mercapto functionalized. Both resins have been tested in solutions containing 20 - 100 ppm Pd(II), Pd(0) or Ru(II). In addition to different metals and oxidation states, the effects of solvent (polar vs. nonpolar), temperature (25 - 80 °C) and mode (fixed bed vs. batch) were explored. These resins were found to reduce precious metal concentrations in process solutions to levels at or below the target concentration of 5 ppm, even at room temperature in the case of Pd(II) and Pd(0). The results of this study will be discussed. [Pg.493]

Bifunctional linkers bearing functional groups like thiols, disulfides or phosphines are widely used for covalent binding between Au NPs and biomolecules. For example, Au NPs stabilized with a functionalized polysiloxane shell have been used for covalent binding to biomolecules [152]. [Pg.164]

A new functionalized polysiloxane bearing crown ether moieties in the main chain as well as its platinum complex are prepared from 3,19-dihydroxy-l-thia-5,8,ll,14,17-pentaoxacycloicosane through ether formation with ro-chloroundecene, followed by hydrosilylation with triethoxysilane, copolymerization with octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane and reaction with potassium chloroplatinate279. [Pg.1767]

Functionalized polysiloxanes are attractive because, with only small modification of the polysiloxane properties (e.g. density, yield strength, etc.), they allow reduction in the interfacial tension thanks to better interactions with the other homopolymer. Two studies involving PB/PDMS and polyisoprene (PIP)/PDMS are of particular interest [19,20]. The PDMS end groups were either amine (-NH2) or acid (-COOH). It was first observed that the PB/PDMS-NH2 system exhibits a 30% reduction in interfacial tension compared to the equivalent PB/PDMS system. A preliminary reduction... [Pg.117]

Itoh et al. [141] patented a blend of polyurethane and silicone gum with vinyl groups. The crosslinking reaction of the silicone component was achieved using a radical generator. Chorvath et al. [142] also patented a system composed of polyamide or polyester as the thermoplastic and vinyl-containing polysiloxane cured by a peroxide or non-peroxidic initiator such as 3,4-dimethyl-3,4-diphenylhexane (HTV). Moreover, they added different compatibilizers such as amino-terminated or amino-grafted polysiloxane, epoxy- or isocyanato-functionalized polysiloxane. [Pg.137]

Some authors combined the IPN concept with the use of compatibi-lizers similar to that mentioned in Section 2. These may be a coupling agent such as epoxy-functionalized polysiloxane, polysiloxane copolymers or an organofunctional grafted polyolefin such as poly(ethylene-co-methacrylate) or MA-g-EPDM (maleic anhydride grafted EPDM) [124,125, 133]. Abstract Aldehyde functional polysiloxanes (1) (Fig. 1) can be selectively prepared in high yield and purity by oxidation of the corresponding carbinols with technical bleach and catalytic amounts of TEMPO. This simple oxidation method is also successfully used for the preparation of the corresponding carboxylic acids 2 (Fig. 1). The stability, reactivity and chemical properties of new compounds 1 and 2 are investigated. [Pg.49]

To date, three methods have been described for the synthesis of aldehyde functional polysiloxanes (1) in patent literature, but these are not practiced. The hydroformylation of olefinic siloxanes with carbon monoxide and hydrogen under high pressure and temperature conditions is possible (Scheme 1, eq. (1)), but produces a mixture of... [Pg.50]

Another interest in the introduction of snch gronps lies in the opportunity to take advantage of the nucleophilicity (amines) of these side-gronps for further functionalizing polysiloxanes. Conversely, methods for grafting a nucleophilic molecule on electrophilic side-gronps on polysiloxanes are based essentially on the... [Pg.141]

Concerning the first method, the availability of primary amine functionalized polysiloxanes (e.g. poly(aminopropyhnethyl-co-dimethyl)siloxane) is limited. Whereas the second method allows the synthesis of polysiloxanes with varying amounts of grafts and a wide range of molecular weights via synthesized statistical poly(dimethyl-co-hydromethyl)siloxane. [Pg.190]

Concern about redistribution reactions of the polysiloxane backbone and the formation of small amount of aldehyde-functional polysiloxane as side-product led the authors to explore several acid catalysts with the lowest moisture content possible, with activated clay being finally preferred. Size-exclusion chromatography was performed on some of the resulting polysiloxanes. [Pg.195]

POSS was mechanically dispersed in a functionalized polysiloxane gum using a speedimix (needs some details) and the mix cured using tin catalyzed condensation chemistry. Silica and Carbon nano fiber composites were produced by mixing the fiber into functionalized polysiloxane gum and the mix cured using tin catalyzed condensation chemistry. [Pg.281]
