Floor repair

Epoxies have an excellent resistance to abrasion. The abrasion resistance of a particular system depends upon the type of formulation and conditions. For example coatings have the capacity to resist abrasion from rubber wheels, whereas screed floorings, repair mortar and self-levelling floors can resist thousands of cycles from steel wheels. 

Example. A contractor applied an asphaltic membrane up to I" thick in an attempt to corrrect an improperly installed concrete base slab. In the southwest Texas summer sun, the asphalt softened and the brick shifted, severely damaging the joints in the brick floor. Repair of the area ran into five figures.

Chem. Descrip. New types of anodes have been developed and tested as shown in Fig. 16-5 to improve the possibility of maintenance and repair. They can be lifted onto a ship and repaired. The connecting cables are also replaceable. In shallow water, the anchorage must be accurately calculated because considerable dynamic stressing can occur in heavy seas. The ocean floor must be suitable for long-term anchorage. No supply ships must anchor in the area around the platform. This requirement alone often prevents the installation of impressed current anodes since the operator does not wish or is not able to restrict himself to these conditions. 

To develop the skills of in-house personnel, as mueh repair work as possible should utilize plant personnel. Eneouraging the partieipation of the maehinist in the solution of diffieult problems often results in the maehinist seeking information on his own. Referenees to API and ASME speeifieations should not be uneommon on the shop floor. Today s maehinist and meehanie must be eomputer literate. Internet training must be provided with some basie training on word proeessing and spreadsheet programs. 

The resins have also found use in a number of other directions. The use of the resins in floorings and road surfacings is somewhat spectacular. In spite of the high initial cost, such floorings have excellent chemical resistance and resistance to wear. The resins are claimed to be of particular value at road junctions and roundabouts, where severe wear is experienced, but where repairs and maintenance operations need to be kept to a minimum because of the resultant disruption in the flow of traffic. 

Acid used in the formation process is removed from the batteries and reused. The batteries are washed, fresh acid is added, and the batteries are tested, re-washed, and inspected before being shipped to an on-site warehouse. The intermediate and final washes generate process wastewater, as do the battery repair and housekeeping (floor washing) operations. This wastewater Is pretreated on-site and then piped to the local publicly owned treatment works (POTW).

The ground floor of an industrial building is arguably the most important stmctural element. Failure of a floor slab or even a topping can lead to enormous expense and dismption due to repair or replacement. Considerations in the design of a ground slab may include ... 

The need for good design and expert installation of floor finishes cannot be emphasized too strongly. The floor receives the greatest wear of all the inner linings, and once the temperature has been reduced in the store, it will usually remain low for the rest of its life. Repairs are therefore very difficult. 

Sheet vinyl is best installed by professionals, whereas tiles can be laid by amateurs if instructions are followed carefully. Sheet flooring is usually considered more attractive and easier to maintain. It has few seams to open up in time and become dirt catchers or entrance points for moisture. In some materials, seams can be welded by heat, thus forming a permanent seal. Others will in time require additional sealer. Tiles, on the other hand, can be laid with less waste and also have the advantage of being replaceable if damaged. Whichever type is chosen, a supply of extra tiles or a few scraps of sheet flooring should be kept for possible future repairs. 

Over one weekend, Julio s school is badly flooded. Someone broke in and, after putting the plugs in all the washbasins in the upstairs toilets, they turned all the taps on. The overflowing water ruined carpets on both floors and caused large parts of the ground floor ceiling to collapse. Several televisions, some musical instruments and a lot of computer equipment were ruined. The repairs to the school are very expensive. A week later Julio discovers who caused all the damage and the vandals find out that he knows about them. 

As a result of these findings, a scheduled standard pelvic exploration is now an obligatory procedure in clinical trials with new SERMs. It is important to note that this adverse effect has not been associated with tamoxifen or toremifene therapy (Maenpaa et al. 1997 Fisher et al. 1998), and in the case of raloxifene, a post hoc metaanalysis of 6926 nonhysterectomized postmenopausal women participating in clinical trials for 3 years or more showed a significant 50% reduction in the incidence of surgery for repairing pelvic floor relaxation, reported as an adverse event, compared with placebo (Goldstein et al. 2001). 

A combined filter and manure system must be completely reliable, since it is not easy to make repairs under the slats. After 2-3 years of experience a system which works well has been developed. (2, 3, 4) In Fig.2 a schematic diagram of the filter system is shown under the slatted floor. In the channel under the slats two angle sections (1) are attached one above the other and fixed over the whole length to both walls. These are covered from above with protective plates (2) joined underneath the slats. The filter net (3) is provided with... 

Wastewater generation can be reduced by general good housekeeping procedures such as substituting dry cleanup methods for water washdowns of equipment and floors. This is especially applicable for situations where liquid or solid materials have been spilled. Flow measuring devices and pH sensors with automatic alarms to detect process upsets are two of many ways to effect reductions in water use. Prompt repair and replacement of faulty equipment can also reduce wastewater losses.

After 1- years, the Portland cement concrete control samples at Corpus Christi that were installed contiguous to and intermixed with the sulfur concrete test samples showed total disintegration, whereas the sulfur concrete exhibited no identifiable attack (figure 2). In the summer of 1979, the ongoing maintenance needs at the Corpus Christi plant placed rehabilitation of a cellhouse basement floor in a priority position. The opportunity to perform the repair work on a full-scale basis, utilizing Bureau of Mines technology for sulfur concrete in lieu of portland cement concrete, was accomplished by an agreement for a demonstration project executed between the Bureau of Mines and Asarco. 

Floor polishes typically are evaluated for gloss, application and leveling properties, discoloration, slip resistance, scratch resistance, heel-mark resistance, scuff resistance, damp-mopping and detergent resistance, repairability, lack of sediment, and removability (3). Recoatability and formula stability are also important. A review of test methods is available (35). More than 20 ASTM test methods for floor polishes exist. From the standpoint of product safety, slip resistance is a particularly important variable and many test methods are available (39).
