Typical applications include proofed goods, toys, footwear, threads, floor covering, mats and latex articles. [Pg.82]

The use of rubber as a floor covering (continuous sheets, tiles or mats) was one of its earliest applications but is now being challenged by a variety of plastics, mainly PVC. [Pg.29]

Straw from a wide variety of plants, not just those that produce cereal grains, is commonly used in many cultures to make woven items such as mats, hats, floor covering, and baskets. Straw decorations are often placed on thatched roofs. These rick ornaments are usually in the form of animals, made of straw that has been bunched and tied into shape. They may be just for decoration, or they may identify the thatcher who made the roof. [Pg.78]

Carpet Original floor coverings were durable rubber mats. Once the closed cars were developed, other materials were evaluated for use. Initially natural fiber matting was used, but as synthetic materials came onto the market, they replaced the natural materials. This started in the 1950s with tufted rayon [9]. Soon rayon was replaced by nylon, a particularly durable plastic that has remained the material of choice in modem automotive carpet systems. [Pg.736]

In 1975 it was estimated that one third of all the broadloom carpet produced in the USA had an attached SBR cushion. Unfortunately, the highly competitive situation prevailing at the time, compelled manufacturers to reduce the cost of the attached foam by either increasing the level of the cheap calcium carbonate filler and/or reducing foam application weights and density. This inevitably adversely affected the durability of the foam to such an extent that failure occurred resulting in premature wear of the carpet. As consequence of the bad name that attached SBR cushions obtained in the eyes of consumers, today HSL foam backed carpet has virtually disappeared in the USA, with the exception of a few specialty floor coverings such as bath mats. [Pg.257]

The N 300 series is characterized by a wide variety of rubber blacks, covering about 10 different types. As mentioned above, fme-particle active blacks are used for rubber components that need to withstand significant levels of mechanical stress, e.g. tire treads. Semi-active blacks, on the other hand, are used in the tire carcass but also in technical rubber components, from screen and door seals to floor mats. Tires also contain other special carbon blacks, for instance, so-called adhesion blacks for improving radial steel belt adhesion, conductive blacks or inactive blacks for higher filler load rates [4.26]. [Pg.182]

First the round wall is constructed and then small pieces of wood are laid down all over the floor these pieces are mainly wooden branches. The raw wood which is cut to a suitable length is taken into the oven piece by piece and stocked vertically and closely on the floor. The raw wood is then covered by many small pieces of wood to form, a spherical surface on top. It is covered with straw-mats or rice straws and then with moist clay, which is consolidated by beating it this completes the oven. Then wood is burnt for a long time ( about one day ) at the ignition hole to ignite the raw wood. When a large amount of white... [Pg.118]

The need for floor drains should be considered, as well as the ability to collect wastewater for treatment or incineration. If floor drains are installed, the floors should slope toward the drain from all directions. Drain cover materials should also be evaluated with regard to quality, ease of sanitation, and cleaning. Fig. 4 shows a multipurpose room with an easily cleaned floor, dry-wall fiberglass mat with epoxy-painted walls, floor drain, and utility panel. This room also has self-contained hot- and cold-water wash-down capability. [Pg.2879]

Poly(L-lactic acid) is an effective alternative to petro-based polymers in applications such as packaging material, automotive materials, including floor mats and spare tire covers, and the chassis of electrical appliances such as computers, mobile phones, remote controls, and optical disks [422,423]. Both woven and nonwoven fabrics made from PLA fibers are being considered for automobile cabin parts applications, such as floor mats, seat fabric, seat cushions, ceiling fabric, door trim, and partition board. Toyota has already employed a new type of spare-tire box cover using Kenaf/PLA board, which is manufactured by heat compression molding of a Kenaf/PLA (weight-based blend ratio 7/3) fiber web [16]. [Pg.475]
