Fertilizer trade

Although sulphate of ammonia is very wididv produced at this time and it is felt in some qua rters that the market is supersaturated, it is believed that because the sulphate is so well known to the fertilizer trade, it will be given serious consideration as a consumer of further increases in synthetic ammonia production. 

Complex Fertilizer (Malaysia) - A term used in the fertilizer trade to denote a compound fertilizer, all the nutrient contents of which have undergone chemical interaction during the manufacturing process.

The FAO has been publishing data on worldwide data production, trade and consumption of fertilizers annually since 1950 see FAO. 1950-. Fertilizer Yearbook. Rome FAO. The International Fertilizer Industry Association in Paris publishes annually the following statistics Fertilizer Nutrient Consumption, by Region Fertilizer Nutrient Consumption by Product Fertilizer Trade. The Internet sites are, respectively, www.fao.org and www.fertilizer. org. Consumption data are also often reported in terms of crop years, which straddle calendar years. 

Monoammonium Phosphate. Monoammonium phosphate [7722-76-1] (MAP), NH4H2PO4, has become second only to diammonium phosphate as a phosphate fertilizer material of trade. During the year ended June 30, 1990, monoammonium phosphate used ia the United States furnished 985 thousand t of P2O5 as compared to 1.5 million t furnished by diammonium phosphate and 240 thousand t by triple superphosphate (Fig. 7). Monoammonium phosphate furnished 25% of total P2O5 consumption. 

The fertilizer iadustry, through its various trade organizations, supports continued iatensive study of the effects of fertilizer use on the environment. Support is also given to educational programs that promote pmdent use of fertilizer.

CDU is manufactured by Chisso Corp. (Japan) and marketed as CDU by Chisso Asahi Fertilizer Co., Ltd. It is also produced by BASF (Germany) under Japanese hcense. It is sold under the trade name Crotodur in Europe. 

A number of products are being marketed under the trade name POLYON. These include coated basic fertilizer materials, ie, urea, potassium nitrate, potassium sulfate, potassium chloride, ammonium sulfate, ammonium phosphate, and iron sulfate, in various particle sizes. Coatings weights on urea vary from 1.5 to 15%, depending on the release duration desired. Table 6 Hsts typical products.

Phosphorites are hydrogenous precipitates with phosphorus concentrations greater than 5% w/w P2O5. Concentrations as high as 40% have been observed. In comparison the phosphorus content of most sediments is aroimd 0.3%. Phosphorites represent an important economic ore deposit as shown in Table 18.3, supplying phosphorus for fertilizer use. The United States is the leading supplier of processed phosphates in the world, accounting for about 45% of world trade. 

The industrial term potash can be very misleading. It can refer to potassium carbonate (K2CO3), potassium hydroxide (KOH), potassium chloride (KCl), potassium sulfate (K2SO4), potassium nitrate (KNO3), or collectively to all potassium salts and to the oxide K2O. More correctly KOH is called caustic potash and KCl is called muriate of potash. Production is recorded in weight equivalents of K2O since almost all potash is used as fertilizer and this industry quotes weight percentages of K2O in its trade. 

By current practice, large quantities of AN are never accumulated or exposed to heat or fires. However, fertilizer storage warehouses still explode occasionally, and AN has become a popular, inexpensive, and readily available material for terrorists, for example, in the World Trade Center bombing in New York City in 1992 and the Oklahoma City bombing of 1995. 

The official trade and custom statistics are not broken down to fine chemicals. The US Bureau of the Census classification, for instance, uses the following main product categories organic chemicals, inorganic chemicals, plastics, fertilizers, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, dyes colorants, and other. ...
