The screw consists of a feed section, a rapid transition section, and a metering section a rounded forward end prevents stagnation. The breaker plate that converts the rotary motion of the melt into smooth, straight flow should have as many holes as possible both ends of each hole should be countersunk for streamlined flow. [Pg.376]

On the basis of this past work and ongoing experiments, we feel that the liquid-phase methanation process promises to become an economic, reliable, and versatile means of converting synthesis gas mixtures to high Btu gas. Chem Systems believes that this technology is a key step in the transformation of fossil feeds into pipeline gas, and we look forward to its successful application in commercial coal gasification plants. [Pg.168]

It will also be possible by relatively minor piping changes to convert the forward-feed evaporator to backward feed, which might be more favorable if the calcium sulfate scale problem can be solved. Except for tubes, pump shaft sleeves, impellers, etc., the plant will be built exclusively of steel and cast iron. Tube materials will be evaluated by tubing different evaporator effects and heat exchangers with steel, admiralty metal, aluminum brass, and 90/10 cupronickel. The copper alloy tubes will be used exclusively in the final condenser and in the few heat exchangers that are in contact with nondeaerated sea water. [Pg.129]

P4-28c An isothermal reversible reaction A (—— B is carried out in an aqueous solution. The reaction is first-order in both directions. The forward rate constant is 0.4 h" and the equilibrium constant is 4.0. The feed to the plant contains 100 kg/m of A and enters at the rate of 12 m /h. Reactor effluents pass to a separator, where B is completely recovered. The reactor is a stirred tank of volume 60 ra . A fraction of the unreacted effluent is recycled as a solution containmg 100 kg/m of A and the remainder is discarded Product B is worth 2 per kilogram and operating costs are 50 per cubic meter of solution entering the separator. What value of / maximizes the operational profit of the plant What fraction A fed to the plant is converted at the optimum H. S. Shankar, UT Bombay)... [Pg.405]

Rubber extrusion is used to convert feed into a continuous finished product such as rods, mbes or profiles. Feed material is introduced into a hopper and conveyed forwards by a rotating screw (which is driven hy an electric motor). This is similar to the process shown in Figure 6.18 for thermoset extrusion. [Pg.409]

Description this method considers that composition change due to reaction is negligible on each stage and that RD is a succession of reaction and distillation operations (Giessler et al., 1998), where the feed is firstly converted to a pseudoinitial mixture -with composition X assuming a certain extent of reaction e- w hich is then separated in a distillation column (figure 3.1a). For that pseudo-initial mixture feasible steady states occur when i) the composition X and the product compositions satisfy the mass balance and ii) a part of the distillation line lies inside the forward reaction rate region. [Pg.43]

Whenever heat input is manipulated through a forward loop, as in Figs. 11.14 and 11.15, dynamic compensation is considerably different. If a step increase in feed rate is converted instantaneously into a proportional increase in boilup, a momentous imbalance in the vapor-liquid distribution is forced up the column, Eventually the flow of reflux ivill increase in order to restore balance, and when equilibrium returns, the material balance will be unaffected. The sudden increase in boilup will, however, carry bottoms product upward, lowering the level in the reboiler, until reflux flow increases commensurately. Consequently, an analyzer or temperature measurement anywhere within the column will indicate a transient overcorrection. [Pg.316]
