Family firms

Samuel Montagu, a core RIIA bank, since 1930, as well as with the family firms. Another uncle, Sir John Henry Keswick, is the top man for British corporate policy towards China. He is Chairman of the China Association, Vice-President of the Sino-British Trade Council, and a member of the Great Bri-tain-China Committee. [Pg.159]

In family firms the assignment of tasks, the grouping of work activities, the flow of tasks and information, and the control of work processes are informally organised (Whisler, 1988). [Pg.21]

Also in this period, Tanzansino, a Chinese government-Tanzanian military collaboration, closed for planned major renovation, while two family firms owned and run by Tanzanian pharmacists, Mansoor Daya and AA Pharmaceuticals, were investing and expanding supplies to the local market. Mansoor Daya is the oldest Tanzanian local producer, while AA was started in 2003. [Pg.47]

This business strategy carries two kinds of risk. At firm level it abandons what one firm called the cash cows the cash-generating basic commodities this reduced their turnover and liquidity and hence capability to invest. Family firms may find this reduces their survival chances in the medium term. The largest firm, Shelys, had been sold 100% in 2012 to Aspen, the South African multinational firm now part-owned by GSK (Aspen Holdings, 2013). The Aspen annual report... [Pg.53]

Ithough knowledge-based potentials are most popular, it is also possible to use other types potential function. Some of these are more firmly rooted in the fundamental physics of iteratomic interactions whereas others do not necessarily have any physical interpretation all but are able to discriminate the correct fold from decoy structures. These decoy ructures are generated so as to satisfy the basic principles of protein structure such as a ose-packed, hydrophobic core [Park and Levitt 1996]. The fold library is also clearly nportant in threading. For practical purposes the library should obviously not be too irge, but it should be as representative of the different protein folds as possible. To erive a fold database one would typically first use a relatively fast sequence comparison lethod in conjunction with cluster analysis to identify families of homologues, which are ssumed to have the same fold. A sequence identity threshold of about 30% is commonly... [Pg.562]

Retiring from their business just as the patents began to expire in 1800, the firm of Boulton Watt was turned over to the junior Boulton and Watt as its industrial preeminence slipped away and royalties dwindled. Watt s friends and family aged and passed. [Pg.1219]

On incorporation, a small, family-owned firm may start with an initial capital of 10,000 divided into 10,000 shares of 1 each. A large public company, on the other hand, may have a share capital of many millions of dollars, sub-divided into many more millions of shares or stock units, of perhaps as little as 25 cents. [Pg.1027]

As yet there is no firm evidence for heteroallenes of the group 13 elements these are likely to be investigated in the future. Finally, the flash photolytic studies of silaallenes which have provided much insight into their formation (see Sect. IIIA2) will probably be continued and expanded to include other members of the heteroalicne family. [Pg.44]

The plants that exude diterpenoid resins belong to the order of conifers. Pine resins (from the Firms genus), Strasburg turpentine (from the Abies genus), Venice turpentine (from Larix decidua) were extracted from Pinaceae. Sandarac, juniper and cypress resins were extracted from trees of the Cupressaceae family Tetraclinis articulata, Juniperus spp. and Cupressus semprevirens, respectively. Moreover, labdanum resin from the Cistaceae family (Cistus spp.) also belongs to the diterpenoid resins. [Pg.14]

Long before the age of plastics and nylons, I. G. Farben-industrie was known to many Americans as simply the world s best druggist. Every reputable pharmacy, every physician s bag, every good family medicine cabinet, stocks some of Farben s 6000 medicines. The firm invented a drug that is still the best cure for epilepsy. They made atabrine, the quinine-substitute for treating malaria. And from the aspirin tablet alone, I. G. Farben made a vast fortune. [Pg.6]

Von Schnitzler was the one Farben director whose family did not center in Heidelberg. Of the Frankfurt aristocracy, he was the nephew of Baron Dr. Walther vom Rath, a Frankfurt Junker and oldest head of the largest firm which was absorbed in the Farben cartel. In fact, it had been said that the cartel took its name from Baron vom Rath s firm, Farbenwerke vorm. [Pg.55]

Efforts aimed at understanding the structure of this fascinating type of conglomerate are in progress. Unfortunately, the most fundamental aspect of the structure of B4—whether it is crystalline or a liquid crystalline—is not firmly established. That is, at this point it is not clear whether the B4 phase is a fluid conglomerate or a very novel version of a crystal conglomerate. This ambiguity, however, is emphatically absent in the B2 electro-optically active family of phases, as discussed below. [Pg.489]
