Ernst Homburg studied chemistry in Amsterdam, and continued as researcher and assistant professor in the fields of history and chemistry and society at the universities of Groningen and Nijmegen. His Ph.D. thesis, on the rise of the profession of the industrial chemist in Germany (1790-1850), was published in 1993 (Fan beroep Chemiker, Delft University Press). He is editor of a book series on the history of technology in the Netherlands and is at present connected to the history department of the University of Maastricht. [Pg.361]
