In other designs, a diffused siUcon sensor is mounted in a meter body that is designed to permit caUbration, convenient installation in pressure systems and electrical circuits, protection against overload, protection from weather, isolation from corrosive or conductive process fluids, and in some cases to meet standards requirements, eg, of Factory Mutual. A typical process pressure meter body is shown in Figure 10. Pressure measurement from 0—746 Pa (0—3 in. H2O) to 0—69 MPa (0—10,000 psi) is available for process temperatures in the range —40 to 125°C. Differential pressure- and absolute pressure-measuring meter bodies are also available. As transmitters, the output of these devices is typically 4—20 m A dc with 25-V-dc supply voltage.

The safety issues in MBS processing involve the presence of flammables and oxygen in the system together. Extensive hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies of MBS processes have been conducted to meet rigorous safety and environmental protection standards. The Huish MBS plant has been underwritten by factory mutual underwriters and already has more than 5 years of trouble-free operation the older Lion and Stepan plants have operated safely for longer periods. 

Security is not typically thought of as a building design aspect or as a fire protection element. However, according to a literature review, security was the most often quoted incendiary fire protection/prevention method. In fact. Underdown (1979, p. 119) stated that, the prevention of fires of doubtful origin is purely one of security. Some of the most common and functional security features include (Factory Mutual System, 1977) ... 

An analysis in 1977 of all Factory Mutual incendiary losses over 100,000 showed that the primary factors contributing to the extent of the loss were the lack of automatic sprinklers and closed sprinkler conti ol valves (p. 14). These were valves not closed by the arsonist. This study further states that valve supervision is one of the most important forms of protection against incendiary losses (1977, p. 14). Even in those buildings that are equipped with sprinklers, incendiary fires can be devastating if the owners do not regularly maintain and inspect their fire protection systems. Therefore, regular inspections by the building owner, as well as strict code enforcement, should control this problem. 

There are requirements for entire rooms as well. Inside storage rooms have design criteria that must be met. Inside storage room design and amounts may be found in 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) 1910.106. For example, storage rooms must have a ventilation syston that accomplishes six air exchanges per hour (29 CFR 1910.106(d)(4)(iv)). This may also go beyond OSHA requirements and be based upon the fire suppression capability of the protective system. Your liability insurance company will inspect and provide requirements usually based upon National Fire Protection Association or factory mutual standards. 

There are five large insurance organizations, however, that serve a wide range of casualty and property insurers and contribute to fire protection in many ways. They are (1) American Insurance Association, (2) American Mutual Insurance Alliance, (3) Factory Mutual System, (4) Industrial Risk Insurers, and (5) Insurance Services Office.

Central Station. The central station supervisory system has been the norm in the semiconductor industry. The size of the semiconductor facility warrants the reliability that comes with this level of protection. Equipment is specifically listed for this type of service. Signals from the devices are sent to a remote location approved by Factory Mutual or listed by Underwriters Laboratory. Upon receipt of a fire signal, a central station must alert the fire department.
