Eyelashes

Lead acetate can be used only for coloring scalp hair at a level not to exceed 0.6%, as lead, weight/volume of the product. The regulations provide specific restrictions (including label specifications) that lead acetate must not be used to color mustaches, eyelashes, eyebrows, or hair on parts of the body other than the scalp. 

Henna can be used only to color hair with the exception of eyelashes, eyebrows, or generally ia the area of the eye. The label for products containing henna must caution the consumer not to use ia the area of the eye or on cut or abraded scalp. 

Eye Makeup. Siace antiquity, eye makeup preparations have been used to beautify the area surrounding the eye. Various forms of eye shadows color the eyeHd mascaras color and lengthen the eyelashes eyeliners delineate the portion of the eyeHd from which the eyelashes emerge. The appearance of eyebrows can be altered with various types of makeup, and, finally, false eyelashes and eyebrows have been marketed for years. 

The use of false eyelashes is rare. These are prepared from natural or synthetic fibers attached to a tinted lash strip, which can be glued onto the Hd with the aid of an adhesive.

Antimony - the atomic number is 51 and the chemical symbol is Sb. The name derives from the Greek, anti + monos for not alone or not one because it was found in many compounds. The chemical symbol, Sb, comes from the original name, stibium, which is derived from the Greek stibi for mark , since it was used for blackening eyebrows and eyelashes. The name was changed from stibium to antimonium to antimony. The minerals stibnite (Sb2S3) and stibine (SbHj) are two of more than one hundred mineral species, which were known in the ancient world. 

Antimony has a long history of medical use. Some scholars believe that Mozart died after being given antimony by the physicians who were treating his depression and who were unaware of just how poisonous antimony was. The evidence for this story is scant. It is also known that around 870 bce. Queen Jezebel and her contemporaries used the mineral or ore antimony sulfide as a cosmetic to darken their eyelashes and as an eyeliner. It is still used for this purpose in many countries.

Pigmentation is expected to increase as long as latanoprost is administered but after discontinuation, pigmentation of the iris is likely to be permanent, while pigmentation of the periorbital tissue and eyelash changes has been reported as reversible.

Trichotillomania, listed in the DSM-IV under Impulse Control Disorders Not Elsewhere Classified ( 252), is characterized by impulses to pull out one s hair, often involving multiple sites (scalp, eyebrows, and eyelashes commonly pubic, axillary, chest, and rectal areas less commonly) ( 253). Some clinicians have proposed that this condition is a variant of OCD, based on similarities in phenomenology, family history, and response to treatment. Originally thought to occur more frequently in females, it has become evident that it may affect males just as often. Many victims of this disorder have histories beginning in childhood and refractoriness to all attempted remedies. Co-morbidity of trichotillomania with mood, anxiety, substance abuse, and eating disorders is also common (254). Others have noted that trichotillomania may also coexist with mental retardation and psychotic disorders (see Appendix Q). 

Thiopentone is administered as a 2.5% solution, the usual intravenous induction dose being 3-5 mg kg-1 in adults and 5-6 mg kg-1 in children. The dose necessary to induce anaesthesia is reduced by premedication, during early pregnancy and in critically ill patients. Patients over 70 years of age require a 30-40% lower dose because of a decrease in the volume of distribution, lower plasma proteins, and a slower redistribution of the drug from vessel-rich tissues. However, the above doses are merely guidelines, and the calculated dose should be administered over 10-20 seconds and the drug titrated to clinical effect, i.e. loss of eyelash reflex.

The adverse effects of travoprost include gradual darkening of the color of the iris and the eyelid skin, increased thickness, number, and darkness of the eyelashes, conjunctival hyperemia, and ocular pruritus (75). 

Eyelash growth was reported in 36 18% of patients after 6 months of using bimatoprost (2).
