External type comparison

Tube-type. These separators are typically divided into two sections (I) precharging and (2) separation. The precharging section is designed to create or enhance the charge difference between particles to be separated (typically by some form of contact mechanism or external pretreatment to render one constituent positive or negative in comparison to the other materials present. The separation section consists of two vertical walls of tubes opposing each other. Each tube... [Pg.1803]

The determination of the relationship between detector response and the sample concentration is termed the calibration of the method. There are two types of methods in use for the quantitative analysis of a sample, i.e., the external standard and the internal standard method. An external standard method is a direct comparison of the detector response of a pure compound (standard) to a sample.2 The calibration of the method is performed by preparing standards of varying concentration and analyzing them by a developed method. Method 1 (below) was developed for toluene, and standards of varying concentration were prepared and analyzed. The results obtained are summarized in Table 2 see Figure 3. [Pg.156]

Proficiency testing is a special type of laboratory performance studies defined as study of laboratory performance by means of ongoing interlaboratory test comparisons (ISO Guide 33 [1989] ISO/REMCO N 280 [1993] IUPAC [1993] Prichard et al. [2001]). Proficiency testing is an essential part of external quality assessment schemes and performance checks. [Pg.253]

Stateful pattern recognition This method examines and compares the contents of certain key parts of an information packet against a database of acceptable information. Information traveling from inside the firewall to the outside is monitored for specific defining characteristics, then incoming information is compared to these characteristics. If the comparison yields a reasonable match, the information is allowed through. If not, the information is discarded. Provides a limited time window to allow pockets of information to be sent does not allow any direct connections between internal and external hosts supports user-level authentication. Slower than packet filtering does not support all types of connections. [Pg.210]

Cross comparisons across toxicogenomic datasets provides new statistical questions and subsequent challenges in data analysis. Meta-analyses may integrate datasets from multiple experimental studies consisting of different models (species, source), platforms (array type), statistical techniques (normalization) and design. The first challenge that needs to be addressed is how to properly make comparisons across datasets. To normalize datasets, better results may be achieved when data is first normalized internally and then externally (88). Secondly, equivalent and current annotation is needed to identify common genes across platforms, models, etc. [Pg.460]

This chapter describes the different types of batch and continuous bioreactors. The basic reactor concepts are described as well as the respective basic bioreactors design equations. The comparison of enzyme reactors is performed taking into account the enzyme kinetics. The modelhng and design of real reactors is discussed based on the several factors which influence their performance the immobilized biocatalyst kinetics, the external and internal mass transfer effects, the axial dispersion effects, and the operational stabihty of the immobilized biocatalyst. [Pg.392]

Polymerization products with internal plasticization have the advantage that there is no migration or efflorescence of the plasticizer on storage. On the other hand, the mechanical properties—above all, flexibility at low temperatures—are decreased in comparison with the products with low molecular plasticizers. This is because mobility in the solvatized molecules is diminished. The same refers to tensile strength, which is often decreased with internally plasticized polymers. In this respect they are inferior to externally plasticized products, which also have an advantage in that type and quantity of plasticizer can be varied widely. Internally plasticized products must have a definite ratio of components. These are reasons why combinations of both types of plasticizers are preferred. [Pg.96]

When considering water circulation, quantitative and qualitative generalizations and a comparison of the the results of the studies of the Black Sea currents performed using modern observation techniques (autonomous buoys stations, shipborne acoustic measurements, drifter and altimetric satellite observations) with different types of hydrodynamic models were presented. The horizontal and vertical structure of the general water circulation in the Black Sea is shown, together with its seasonal and interannual variabilities. The principal mechanisms for the current formation under external hydro- and thermodynamical forcing are discussed. [Pg.441]

A comparison of interest or dividend rates for different types of externally financed capital is presented in Table 10. [Pg.248]

In the sub-monolayer range, the amount adsorbed on the external area of a 1 pm cubic zeolite crystal is very small in comparison with the adsorption within the micropore structure (the intracrystalline sorption). Also, apart from a small multilayer adsorption on the external surface, there should be no additional uptake at higher pip0. However, there are three ways in which the non-zeolitic contribution may be increased (a) the binder may have a relatively large specific surface (b) the zeolite crystallite size may be much smaller than 1 pm and (c) the zeolite may contain some amorphous aluminosilicate or silica. In practice, one or more of these effects can result in a significant distortion from the classical form of the Type I isotherm (see Sayari etal., 1991). [Pg.382]
