Evaluator, team role

Two members selected from the team act in supportive roles during the PHA. These roles are the leader and the scribe. A team leader is always needed for a PHA and should double as the scribe only for extremely simple hazard evaluations. For more complex analyses or the HAZOP study method, a separate person should always be assigned to scribe. 

Following the identification and evaluation of the resources available to the facility, the Emergency Preparedness Team, under the direction of the manager, develops the written ERP for the entire facility. The Emergency Preparedness Team is responsible for ensuring that the written facility ERP informs all employees of their roles in an emergency and the hazards to which they may be exposed.

Evaluating a team is different from evaluating an individual, and it involves two levels of review. The first is to evaluate the overall team success. Then you need to look further to determine the role that each individual team member played in attaining that success. One way you can achieve the second step is to ask the team members to complete both a self-evaluation and an evaluation of each team member. This does not need to be a lengthy evaluation. See Appendix A for an example of an evaluation form that can be used for review of individual team members. 

A key benefit of training with simulation is the ability to role play and drill with the entire response team and subsequently evaluate the individual s role within this multidisciplinary setting. This can help identify what worked and what did not work, and what adjustments need to be made. If the simulated patient does not respond, it is an opportunity to review what may have been a better approach to ensure a positive outcome.
