An order was written for 30 mg Cyclosporine (immunosuppressant) oral solution to be administered to a pediatric patient. However, for several days, the nurse administered 300 mg believing that the syringe was calibrated in mg not mL. The oral solution is available as 100 mg/mL. As the pharmacist reviewed the error, he noted that the syringes accompanying the medication were never designed for pediatrics. It is not possible to calculate any dose less than 50 mg. It is imderstandable how the nurse assumed that the 3 mark was for 30 mg since it is positioned between 2,5 and 3,5 (which are European style for the decimals 2.5 and 3.5). To harmonize products in the global market, the manufacturer chose to follow European convention for expressing numbers which uses commas and decimals in the reverse manner as in the United States. [Pg.160]

This, then, was the scene in which SCP projects were planned in Europe. The need for alternative foods and feedstuffs was clear and, in the UK and elsewhere, oil and gas seemed a plentiful and cheap resource from which to produce them. North Sea gas fields were being exploited and research had shown that natural gas or its derivatives could be used to produce SCP feed of superior protein content to conventional feedstuffs. The economics of such processes seemed very promising. In 1971 the European prices for fish meal and soya meal were 200 and 100 per ton respectively. In 1973 oil price rises and a failure in the Peruvian fish meal supply pushed these prices up to 550 and 300 respectively. With such prices for the major feedstuffs it was considered that SCP feeds could be produced competitively. [Pg.88]

Australia has a formal process for adopting European guidelines for drug development and evaluation, including the ICH guidelines. It also has bilateral agreements with a number of countries, and its membership of the Pharmaceutical Inspection Convention allows it to exchange GMP information with other members. [Pg.37]

While participating in the European Union programme on risk assessment of existing chemicals, Euro Chlor (representing all major European chlorine producers), recognised the need to carry out a detailed risk evaluation on chemicals linked to the production of chlorine. In view of concerns about specific risks of organohalogen compounds to the marine environment as a sink for all watercourses, Euro Chlor focused on this environmental compartment, with emphasis on the North Sea. This sea area has been extensively studied and is controlled by the Oslo and Paris Convention for the Prevention of Marine Pollution (OSPARCOM). For a series of chemicals on lists of concern adopted by the North Sea Conference (1990), risk assessments are being carried out to demonstrate their variable environmental profiles. [Pg.58]

The Board is pleased to note that the number of parties that have already invoked article 12, paragraph 10 (a), of the 1988 Convention, continues to grow. Since the report of the Board for 2003 on the implementation of article 12 was issued, the Government of Egypt has requested to receive preexport notifications for all substances in Table I and acetone, and the request of the European Commission on behalf of the States members of the European Union for pre-export notifications for all substances in Table I of 19 May 2000 has been extended to the 10 new States upon their accession to the European Union on 1 May 2004. [Pg.5]

In relation to price premiums, it is important to discuss the more recent studies, as this variable is rather dependant on time. Nieberg and Offerman (2002) reported on premium prices on wheat, milk and beef between 1994 and 1997 in several European countries. For wheat, typical premiums were between 50% and 200% for dairy, between 8% and 36% and for beef, premiums tended to be between 20% and 30%. For the last two categories, the average premiums were low, at least partly because some of the product was sold on the conventional market without premiums. [Pg.234]

The American convention would assign a positive value to E° for the Zn Zn2+(aq) half cell written as an oxidation, but a negative sign if written as a reduction. It is seen that the European convention refers to the invariant electrostatic potential of the electrode with respect to the SHE, whereas the American convention relates to the thermodynamic Gibbs free energy which is sensitive to the direction of the cell reaction. [Pg.3]

IUPAC recommends that electrode potential be reserved for the European convention, whereas the EMF of a half cell is dealt with via the American convention. [Pg.3]

Let us then compare zinc with other metallic elemental substances with respect to the formation of M2+(aq) in acid solution at a pH of zero. The relevant data are summarised in Table 5.7. Note that the ° values given refer (in accordance with the European Convention) to reduction potentials for the half-reactions ... [Pg.162]

The most important of these iprs conventions include the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property (1967) the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works (1971) the Rome Convention (1961) and the Washington Treaty on ip in Respect of Integrated Circuits (1989). UPOV, initiated by a group of western European countries, is based on the International Convention for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants signed in Paris in 1961. [Pg.15]

The EPO esp cenet (ep.espacenet.com) database contains more than 60 million patents from 85 conntries worldwide (not just European Convention countries). The database is searchable by application number, assignee, inventor, or keywords from the title or abstract. Chemical structure searches are not possible. Patents can be viewed as images of the original document in PDF format one page at a time, or the whole patent can be viewed as a text document. Instantaneous translation from French or German into English is available for the latter document type if required. Equivalent pnblished patents, if any, are also listed and are available in PDF format. The text documents do not show chemical structures or diagrams, but these can be viewed in PDF format if required. [Pg.22]

Bold and hashed lines may be drawn either in tapered (wedged) or untapered form. The predominant convention is that tapered lines show absolute stereochemistry, whereas untapered lines show relative stereochemistry. European and U.S. chemists generally differ on whether the thick or thin end of the tapered hashed line should be at the substituent. Bear in mind that these conventions for showing stereochemistry are not universally followed A particular author may use a dialect that is different from the standard. [Pg.3]
