In all of these indoor radon surveys positively skewed, approximately log-normal distributions are obtained. It should be noted that the local area survey may yield a different distribution from the national and thus estimates of numbers of high level houses in susceptible areas can be substantially underestimated from an aggregated national distribution.

Synthetic DNA standards and RNA molecules were electrophoresed in 7 M urea solution on cross-linked polyacrylamide gels (Maniatis et al. 1975). A semilog plot of the number of nucleotides versus the mobility relative to xylene cyanol FF dye is linear and includes the points (N = 100, u i = 0.33) and (N = 50, urei = 0.55). Estimate the number of nucleotides in the glycine tRNA molecule of Staphylococcus epidermidis if it shows a relative mobility of 0.16.

Protocol Copy of the protocol for each proposed clinical study. Note that phase 1 protocols should provide a brief outline including estimation of number of subjects to be included, a description of safety exclusions, and a description of dosing plan (duration, dose, method). All protocols should address monitoring of blood chemistry and vital signs, and toxicity-based modification plans. 

Orphan Status The latest estimate of number of patients (United States) suffering from the disease or condition should be included. Presumably the best source of this information is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but other source estimates may be utilized if unbiased and accurate. Should the estimate rise above the 200,000 cutoff level, the continuation of orphan-drug status should be discussed. 

By any standards, the task of adequately testing all chemicals to which there may be substantial human exposure is formidable. Millions of chemical substances are known.122 The U. N. Environment Program467 has estimated that approximately 500,000 of these are in use, with about 10,000 produced in quantities of 500-1,000,000 kg per year. The number of chemicals in commercial use in the United States has been estimated at 70,000.170 273 According to Fishbein,122 more than 25,000 of these are produced in large quantities, and 700-3,000 new chemicals are introduced each year. Despite considerable variation in the estimates of numbers of chemicals, it seems reasonable to assume that the U.S. population may be exposed to at least 50,000 chemicals.

Both approaches require some estimation of product bioburden. It is not advisable for ethylene oxide sterilization processes to be validated without at least some estimates of numbers of product contaminants. This is irrespective of whether cycle development is by the so-called overkill or the so-called bio-burden method (see below). 

Bioburden cycles normally require resistance data as well as estimates of numbers of microbial comaminants. In this respect AAMI are using the term bk Ninlsi in its broadest sense, almost as a synonym for microflora. 

Routine microscopic counts, like all bacterial counts, are to be regarded as estimates of numbers only. They cannot be made with absolute accuracy even with the most careful technique. Errors will arise from inaccuracies in measurement of the minute quantities of milk examined at any one time, from faulty staining or preparation of slides, from mistakes in observation and the like. These limitations, while important, are not difficult to overcome in sufficient measure to make microscopic grading a satisfactory method of controlling the quality of unpasteurized milk. As it is only in this way that counts of the bacteria themselves can be made, it must be recognized that accurately carried out microscopic counts of individual bacteria give the truest picture of the actual conditions of raw milk that can be obtained with any technique.

At a minimum, a history of cannabis use should include the following age of first use, age when use became regular (e.g., weekly, monthly), lifetime estimate of number of times using cannabis, frequency of use in past 6 mo, frequency of use in past 30 d, amonnt (e.g., number of joints) typically used at one time, and type of cannabis preparation typically used. 

The deviation from plug flow model is most commonly observed as Peclet number, Np =Uj Z/Dj, decreases, but the influence of Np on the estimation of number of mass transfer units, N.jj.=Ktaj Z/UL, is also related with the absorption factor, B=UlH/Uq. In the early 1970s several studies revealed that excessive lead absorption was not confined to children in urban slums, although these were at high risk. High lead intake was also found nationwide, outside urban slums, in poor housing even in rural areas (Fine et al., 1972 Fine and Dobin, 1975).
