Equipment purchase costs tanks

The relative cost of equipment made from different materials will depend on the cost of fabrication, as well as the basic cost of the material. Unless a particular material requires special fabrication techniques, the relative cost of the finished equipment will be lower than the relative bare material cost. For example the purchased cost of a stainless-steel storage tank will be 2 to 3 times the cost of the same tank in carbon steel, whereas the relative cost of the metals is between 5 to 8. 

Category Eactor Estimates. Various capital categories can be related to total equipment costs by factors, reported as percentages of equipment cost. Both purchased equipment costs, including pumps, tanks (qv), and instmments and deHvered equipment costs, excluding instmments, but including some off-sites, have been used in this approach (1,2). 

However, the company s wastewater volume was actually very low, and chemical recovery cartridges, hydroxide precipitation tanks, and sulfide precipitation tanks became reasonable choices for silver recovery. Chemical recovery cartridges and the two types of precipitation tanks were all very simple to install. The costs for purchasing, installing, operating, and monitoring this equipment are very low compared with other methods. 

The estimated cost for a medium size (ten beck) carpet mill to convert 50% of dyeing capacity to the dyebath reuse system is shown in Table X. The calculation assumes the purchase of new equipment with a separate holding tank and pumping system for each of the five becks. At an estimated savings of one cent per pound of carpet dyed (considerably less than indicated in the Table VIII cost analysis and therefore conservative) the recovery of capital investment is still less than one year. 

One of the major costs involved in any chemical process is for the equipment. In many cases, standard types of tanks, reactors, or other equipment are used, and a substantial reduction in cost can be made by employing idle equipment or by purchasing second-hand equipment. If new equipment must be bought, several independent quotations should be obtained from different manufacturers. When the specifications are given to the manufacturers, the chances for a low cost estimate are increased if the engineer does not place overly strict limitations on the design. 

Purchased-equipment costs for vessels, tanks, and process- and materials-handling equipment can often be estimated on the basis of weight. The fact that a wide variety of types of equipment have about the same cost per unit weight is quite useful, particularly when other cost data are not available. Generally, the cost data generated by this method are sufficiently reliable to permit order-of-magnitude estimates. 

The liquid hydrogen fuel storage system used on the private automobile will cost more to manufacture than the simple steel or plastic tanks used as current gasoline fuel tanks. This increased cost is a result of both the greater complexity of the tank and the requirement it be made with close tolerances. In the purchase price of an automobile, these costs will largely be offset by a reduction in the cost of the emission control equipment. The combustion of hydrogen is so clean there is no need for any complex emission controls. 

Table 10.4 provides correlations for estimating the FOB purchased equipment costs for vertical process vessels (e.g., extraction columns) and horizontal process vessels (e.g., surge tanks).
