Environmental management plan

Government Institutes, Inc., 1998. - Offers a 16-step process for developing a comprehensive environmental management plan. Written for environmental managers, this book also contains techniques and tools for implementing ISO 14001. 

In any environmental management plan, it is essential to understand the pertinent quality criteria and their relationship to the variables that can be manipulated directly. The construction of mathematical models imposes the requirement of a logical framework that connects causes and effects, identifies all pertinent variables, and defines their interrelationships. Even if a particular technique never becomes practical, the discipline imposed by the logical structure is valuable in highlighting important relationships. 

Reporting the Environmental Impact Statement (EES), or EIA report, includes an environmental management plan (EMP) and a nontechnical summary for the general audience. 

It is assumed that a company may prepare the necessary documents by internal auditing or using special con-sultents, The audit for registration, however, would be prepared by an authorized certifying body. The standard term of the registration would be 3 years, after which time a review/audit would be done to verify continuous implementation of the environmental management plan. 

Greater emphasis is being placed on the early consideration of waste disposal as a part of the environmental management plan for new mining operations. In many countries it is now established practice to submit waste disposal and mine closure plans within the feasibility study of a new mine before any site development can take place. 

The OSHA standard is required by the Clean Air Aet Amendments, as is the Environmental Proteetion Ageney s Risk Management Plan, whieh was proposed in 1992. Employers who merge the two sets of requirements into their proeess safety management program will better assure full eomplianee with eaeh as well as enhanee their relationship with the loeal eommunity.

In addition, the EU Commission made further recommendations on risk reduction measures for EDTA. First, it asked EU Member States to establish Environmental Quality Standards (EQS) for EDTA, and the national pollution reduction measures to achieve those EQS in 2015 should be included in the river basin management plans in line with the provisions of Directive 2000/60/EC. Second, EU Member States should specify in IPPC permits measures on EDTA to operate to BAT by October 2007, taking into account local circumstances.
