ARCILLA RESEARCH is a small, Dutch-based, technology enterprise which has developed a special body of techniques and materials based on a mineral binder system, whereby products with ceramic-like properties are cured rather than fired. Several taxonomies of stressors in the work environment can be found (e.g. Cooper and Marshall 1976 Cox 1978 Cox et al. 2000 Fletcher 1988, 1991 Warr 1987) and considerable consensus and overlap in the work stressors identified can be found. Factors such as financial remuneration, poor physical work environment, outdated technology, high workload, excessive responsibility, low social position, lack of autonomy and control, variety in job, external job demands/goals, role conflict and ambiguity, lack of support and poor career prospects have all been identified as sources of stress in the work environment (Fletcher 1988 Warr 1987). 

The difficulty in identifying and enforcing safety constraints in design and operations has increased from the past. In many of our older and less automated systems, physical and operational constraints were often imposed by the hmitations of technology and of the operational environments. Physical laws and the Umits of our materials imposed natural constraints on the complexity of physical designs and allowed the use of passive controls.

Rather than focus on specific incineration technologies, one must address the fundamental physical and chemical processes common to many of the possible incineration systems through studies of (1) reaction kinetics of selected waste materials and (2) behavior of waste solutions, slurries, and solids in the incineration environment.
