Service - Chemicals are still purchased on a price per kilogram basis. The supplier offers additional services such as just-in-time delivery, direct electronic ordering via an Electronic Data Interface, routine analysis of process streams and advice on chemicals usage, etc. The supplier still has an incentive to sell more chemicals, but does have more to lose should the end user change supplier. [Pg.298]

The questionnaire is administered, either in paper or electronic form, with the paper questionnaire distributed by the ANSP to all targeted staff (which is usually all staff in the ANSP, excluding external contractors). An electronic version of the questionnaire has also been developed. This is more efficient in the analysis stage but participation depends on the availability of computers for operational staff. The questionnaires are returned directly to an academic partner, currently the London School of Economics (until 2011 the University of Aberdeen provided this service), for analysis. The emphasis of this work is on the analysis of plastic additives through gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). GC/MS systems are a common analytical tool in quality control and analytical service laboratories and electron impact (El) mass spectra are recognized as reliable data for the identification of organic compounds. Traditional methods have employed a flame ionization detector (FID) with identifications based solely on GC retention time data. These methods lack the specificity necessary to distinguish between components attributable to the sample matrix or the additive(s). [Pg.22]

Continuous scans of modulus versus temperature utilizing the DuPont Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer (DMA) has provided a comparison of the high temperature service capabilities of radiation-cured experimental formulations of a vinyl-modified epoxy resin. Shell Epocryl-12. These scans were compared to data obtained when the same materials were applied as adhesives on aluminum test panels, radiation-cured with an electron beam, and lap shear strength tested at discrete temperatures. The DMA instrument utilizes a thin rectangular specimen for the analysis, so specimens can be cut from blocks or from flat sheets. In this case the specimens were cured as sheets of resin-saturated graphite-fibers. The same order of high temperature stability was obtained by each method. However, the DMA method provided a more complete characterization of temperature performance in a much shorter test time and thus, it can be very useful for quick analyses of formulation and processing variables in many types of materials optimization studies. The paper will present details of this study with illustrations of the comparisons. [Pg.379]
