Duration of treatment

The painting procedure for other metal surfaces, although similar, the process of pre-treatment for cast iron components or non-ferrous metals, such as aluminium and copper, may need more care. The process of pre-treatment in such cases may vary slightly than for MS, as noted below. Such surfaces may require a change in the type of chemicals, their concentration and duration of treatment. The final surface preparation and painting procedure, however, will remain the same for all. 

Magnesium is a relatively reactive metal, and can be chromated in nearly neutral solutions as well as in acid solutions. Assess patients for improvement of anxiety symptoms and for return to baseline occupational, social, and interpersonal functioning. With effective treatment, the patient should have no or minimal symptoms of anxiety or depression. While drug therapy is being initiated, evaluate patients more frequently to ensure tolerability and response. If one were to imagine the ideal drug-delivery system, two prerequisites would be required. First, it would be a single dose for the duration of treatment, whether it be for days or weeks, as with infection, or for the lifetime of the patient, as in hypertension or diabetes. Second, it should deliver the active entity directly to the site of action, thereby minimizing or eliminating side effects. This may necessitate delivery to specific receptors, or to localization to cells or to specific areas of the body. 

The involvement of mast cells in host protection against nematode infection is well characterized in T. spiralis infection. W/Wv mice exhibited a significant delay in worm expulsion, and treatment with either anti-SCF or anti-SCF receptor monoclonal antibody dramatically inhibited mast cell responses and expulsion of T. spiralis for the duration of treatment (Donaldson et al., 1996). W/Wv mice also lack interstitial cells of cajal and intraepithelial y T cells (Maeda et al., 1992 Puddington et al., 1994), which may contribute to the impaired response in these animals (see below). However, supporting evidence of a role for mast cells in protection against T. spiralis comes from studies in which overexpression of IL-9 in mice (which is known to influence the mast cell responses see above) resulted in an extremely rapid mast cell-dependent expulsion of T. spiralis (Faulkner et al., 1997).

In a reanalysis of 51 studies, less than 5 years of therapy with combined estrogen and progestogen was associated with a 15% increase in risk for breast cancer, and the risk increased with greater duration of treatment. Five years after discontinuation of hormone replacement therapy, the risk of breast cancer was no longer increased. 

In patients who cannot tolerate voriconazole, amphotericin B can be used. Full doses (1 to 1.5 mg/kg/day) are generally recommended, with response measured by defervescence and radiographic clearing. The lipid-based formulations may be preferred as initial therapy in patients with marginal renal function or in patients receiving other nephrotoxic drugs. The optimal duration of treatment is unknown.
