The above recommendations apply to patients with drug-susceptible organisms. Patients with drug-resistant organisms may require longer duration treatment with other drug regimens.

Peripheral Antagonists. The relatively long duration of action of the thyroid hormones makes it desirable to have compounds capable of blocking them competitively at their site of action. This is desirable in the treatment of thyroid storm where the reduction of circulating hormone levels brought about by the inhibition of their synthesis is too slow. 

Both amantadiae and rknantadiae have been found to reduce the duration of influenza A-iaduced fever and malaise, and to lessen viral shedding. Prophylactic treatment has been recommended for high risk patients (95). It has been suggested that, ia the presence of amantadine, the influenza vims attaches normally to cells, but once iaside the ceU the vims fails to initiate repHcation. Thus amantadine appears to inhibit the initiation of transcription at an early stage between uncoating and viral-specific RNA synthesis (96). 

The painting procedure for other metal surfaces, although similar, the process of pre-treatment for cast iron components or non-ferrous metals, such as aluminium and copper, may need more care. The process of pre-treatment in such cases may vary slightly than for MS, as noted below. Such surfaces may require a change in the type of chemicals, their concentration and duration of treatment. The final surface preparation and painting procedure, however, will remain the same for all. 

Attention must be paid to the specific technical problems posed by measuring flow in industrial ventilating systems, such as high turbulence level and long time-variation of mean velocity. The LDA measurement conditions (statistically sufficient number of LDA data, suitably long duration of LDA measurements for recognition of long-term phenomena) must be carefully selected for an appropriate treatment of these problems. 

Compounds 111 having structural features of the dual cyclooxygenase (COX)/5-lipooxygenase (5-LO) inhibitor tepoxalin and the 5-LO inhibitor ABT-761 were prepared. Many of these hybrid compounds are potent COX and 5-LO inhibitors two compounds (111, r =McO, R = R" = R = H, R = NH2, R = Me and r = MeO, R = R = Me, R" = R = H, R = Cl) inhibited eicosanoid biosynthesis in an ex vivo assay, but neither improved on the main deficiency of tepoxalin, duration of 5-LO inhibitory activity (99BMCL979). Compounds 111 inhibit the production of arachidonic acid products associated with 5-lipoxygenase and cyclooxygenase and are useful in the treatment of inflammatory disorders (99USP5925769).
