Figure 2.7 Molecular model of dodecyl pyrrolidone ion-dipole bonded to a sodium cation on the clay surface and self-assembling into a rigid post. Figure 2.7 Molecular model of dodecyl pyrrolidone ion-dipole bonded to a sodium cation on the clay surface and self-assembling into a rigid post.
XRD analysis of the solid product showed three main peaks at 28.5 , 47.4 and 56.3 , which indicated that pure crystalline CuCl was formed [3]. Several well-known dispersants polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP), sodium hexameta phosphate (SHP), the sodium salt of EDTA (EDTA-Na), sodium dodecyl sulfonate (SDS), and sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), were introduced to obtain a highly dispersed catalyst. The X-ray patterns obtained with these were basically the same as the patterns obtained with the solids prepared in the other experiments described here. [Pg.326]

The phase separation behavior of a sample of poly(N-vinyl-2.pyrrolidone) (PVP) in aqueous Na2S04 (0.55 M) containing a surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), was reported [83], This phenomenon was studied in function of temperature and surfactant concentration as independent variables. Without surfactant, the polymer exhibits a lower solution temperature (LCST) of 28°C, above which it precipitates. At SDS concentrations of only 300 mg L-1, aggregation was prevented and the behavior of isolated polymer molecules could be studied. [Pg.26]

Swelling of polystyrene latex particles with styrene. The swelling ratios and the corresponding interfacial tensions for the different-size latexes with added anionic surfactants Aerosol MA and sodium dodecyl sulfate are listed in Table II. Those values obtained with added nonionic surfactant Triton X-100 and polymeric surfactant polyvinyl pyrrolidone are listed in Table III. Figure 1 compares theoretical curves from Model I with all of the experimental data. It is found that a curve corresponding to Xmp = 0.35 fits the data best. Therefore, a semi-empirical... [Pg.200]

Blending resin is obtained from emulsion pol5mierization of vinyl chloride in the presence of gelatin, polyvinyl pyrrolidone, diallyl phthalate, sodium dodecyl-benzene sulfonate, tert-butyl pivalate, and dissodium hydrogen phosphate. The surface of this product has a very limited light reflection and it does not stick to the same product. [Pg.128]

The tensile properties of films prepared from poly(vinyl alcohol), PVA, and SWNT are shown in Table 13.6 (73). The SWNT were prepared by the HiPCO process. Further, the SWNT were coated with poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) and sodium dodecyl sulfate to allow good dispersion in the PVA. Flowever, as studied, there was no orientation of the film or the SWNT. [Pg.727]

Using a pressure-jump apparatus the dissolution time for sodium dodecyl sulphate micelles has been measured in solutions which also contain polyvinyl pyrrolidone. The relaxation time associated with the association/dissolution of the micelles depends on the amount of polymer present and also its molecular weight. In addition the activation energy of the dissociation/ association process decreases in the presence of the polymer. These data suggest that the micelles are incorporated along the polymer chain and a simple mechanism for the dissolution of micelles on the polymer is proposed. [Pg.265]

Intercalates form readily between the n-alkyl pyrrolidones and yield interesting effects as a function of alkyl length and ratio of pyrrolidone to surface cation [6]. When utilizing n-dodecyl pyrrohdone (DDP) as a surface treatment, it was found that when DDP was mixed with the clay in a 1 1 ratio to the exchangeable cation, there was an interdigitated intercalate with a r/-spacing of 2.1 nm, which is quite similar to that observed for traditional quaternary amine treated clays. [Pg.14]

When the water structure in the hydrated polymers was examined using the differential scaiming calorimetric technique, it was found that a large amount of free water existed in the MPC polymers [poly(MPC-co-BMA) and poly(MPC-co-n-dodecyl methacrylate (DMA) with 30 unit mol% of MPC] compared with that in poly(HEMA), poly(aciylamide-co-BMA) (PAM), poly(sodium 2-methyl-2-acrylamide propane sulfonate-co-BMA) (PAMB), and poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone-co-BMA) (PVB) °. [Pg.153]
