Alkyl length

The foam volume and stability of alcohol sulfates is relatively increased in hard water compared to soft water. The amount and quality of foam is dependent on the alkyl length. Sulfates with C12-C,4 alkyl chains produce the richest creamy foam with small bubbles. C8-C10 alcohol sulfates are foam depressants and C16-C18 alcohol sulfates are poor foaming surfactants. Foams produced by alcohol sulfates are also relatively stable in the presence of sebum. Sodium and ammonium alcohol sulfates foam better than triethanolamine alcohol sulfates. Alcohol ether sulfates produce lighter foams than those of alcohol... [Pg.265]

With catalyst 26, 1-chloro-l-alkynes with different alkyl lengths also undergo living polymerizations. Consequently, the sequential addition of 1-chloro-l-hexadecyne (A), 1-chloro-l-hexyne (B) and 1-chloro-l-hexadecyne (A) in this order provides an A-B-A-type triblock copolymer. Similarly, one can obtain a B-A-B-type triblock copolymer. These are the first examples of block copolymers from substituted acetylenes. [Pg.976]

Neutron reflectivity has been used to investigate shorter chain length ionic liquids, [BMIM][Bp4] and [OMIM][PF6] [72]. As found with the X-ray reflectivity measurements, both ionic liquids are layered with the ionic and alkyl parts of the liquid segregating into a lamellar structure. This ordering is maintained to at least two alkyl lengths. However, the uncertainty in the analysis did not allow determination of whether the charged layer is at the surface or how deep the ordering penetrates in the liquid. [Pg.201]

Self-assembly fluorescent vesicles were designed and prepared based on the supramolecular interaction of cyclodextrins and N-alkylamino-L-anthraquinone (n-AQ). As the guest molecules, n-AQs with alkyl lengths ranging from CO to CIS were synthesized by the direct reaction of... [Pg.493]

Pal and Nandi examined the miscibility and co-crystallization behavior of polythiophenes [199, 200]. Mixtures of HT-DDT with either HT-PHT or HT-POT clearly segregated, with distinct melting peaks of the components apparent in the thermogram. Smaller differences in alkyl length gave a more complex... [Pg.194]

Spectra were collected for a series alkylsulfonates of varying chain length in order to ascertain the effect of the alkyl length chain on alkyl chain order. The SF vibrational spectra of the three surfactants examined, DDS, UDS, and HS, are shown in Fig. l(d, e, and f). The peak intensities of the symmetric methyl and methylene vibrational modes were obtained from spectral fits, as done above. The surface excess concentration (Fi) of surfactant at the interface is obtained from the bulk aqueous concentration by way of the interfacial pressure isotherms. [Pg.21]

We further increased the length of the alkyl chain and found that the molecular weight of the polymer monotonically increased with the alkyl chain lengthening. When the alkyl length was increased to 18, the of the polymer [1( 18)] reached a high value... [Pg.34]
