PH-lowering solution

If you let your crystals dry overnight, then find your safety glasses again and put them on. Take about a quarter of either the wet or dry acetylsalicylic acid crystals and place them into a glass container that can be used for warming. The dried crystals are very fluffy and should be handled carefully so they do not scatter. Take the bottle of aquarium pH-lowering solution recommended for purchase in the Shopping List and Solutions, and add it dropwise until the entire sample of acetylsalicylic acid is com-... [Pg.274]

Direct measurement of the change in interfacial potential difference at the oxide-electrolyte interface with change in pH of solution can be measured with semiconductor or semiconductor-oxide electrodes. These measurements have shown d V g/d log a + approaching 59 mV for TiC (36, 37). These values are inconsistent with the highly sub-Nernstian values predicted from the models with small values of K. (Similar studies 138.391 have been performed with other oxides of geochemical interest. Oxides of aluminum have yielded a value of d t)>q/A log aH+ greater than 50 mV, while some oxides of silicon have yielded lower values.)... [Pg.74]

A solution of a salt of a strong acid and a weak base has a pH lower than 7, l.e. it is acidic. [Pg.33]

The hydrolysis of PPC in solution was studied as a function of the pH value [86]. The viscosity of the solution was taken to monitor the progress of hydrolysis. It was found that the hydrolysis is very dependent on the pH. At pH 5-9 little or no viscosity decrease occurs in a period of 20 days. At a pH lower than 3 or higher than 11, hydrolysis is substantial. Overall decomposition rate is faster in a basic solution (about 4,000 times faster at pH 13 than at pH 1). In this respect, PPC is more stable in acidic medium than polyester PCL or PLA. The PPC degradation experiments were not investigated with respect to the product spectrum. [Pg.42]

Tungsten is a weak reducing agent ( ow/wo3 = —0.09 V), which can be oxidized into WOj, W2O5, or WO3. Passivation is achieved in aqueous solutions by WO3 which is stable at pH lower than 4 except in the presence of HF, which forms fluorinated tungsten complexes. Never-therless corrosion is very low in diluted ammonia. [Pg.188]

Why do glass pH electrodes tend to indicate a pH lower than the actual pH in strongly basic solution ... [Pg.324]

The adsorption of sodium polyacrylate on kaolinite was investigated by Michaels and Morelos1105 in the pH range 5-8. Adsorbance was found to decrease with rising pH and to increase in proportion to M0 05. Schmidt and Eiriehm) dealt with a series of vinyl aeetate-crotonic acid copolymers adsorbed on anatase as a function of the charge density of copolymer and the pH of solution. Adsorbance largely increased as the crotonic add content was raised and also as the pH was lowered. [Pg.54]
