As shown in Fig. 2, the catalytic activity of the zeolite prepared by the direct heating method for methanol conversion was higher than that of the zeolite crystallization for 25 days by the standard preparation method. However, deactivation of the catalyst by carbon deposit occurred early in the reaction, just as with the catalyst prepared by the standard method. Differences in crystallite morphology between those prepared by the standard method and the direct heating method would be attributed to the stage of the precursor formation. Therefore, after the precursor formation the rapid heating was adopted as described below. [Pg.484]

An entirely different type of transport is formed by thermal convection and conduction. Flow induced by thermal convection can be examined by the phaseencoding techniques described above [8, 44, 45] or by time-of-flight methods [28, 45]. The latter provide less quantitative but more illustrative representations of thermal convection rolls. The origin of any heat transport, namely temperature gradients and spatial temperature distributions, can also be mapped with the aid of NMR techniques. Of course, there is no direct encoding method such as those for flow parameters. However, there are a number of other parameters, for example, relaxation times, which strongly depend on the temperature so that these parameters can be calibrated correspondingly. Principles and Characteristics Pare et al. [475] have patented another approach to extraction, the Microwave-Assisted Process (MAP ). In MAP the microwaves (2.45 GHz, 500 W) directly heat the material to be extracted, which is immersed in a microwave transparent solvent (such as hexane, benzene or iso-octane). MAP offers a radical change from conventional sample preparation work in the analytical laboratory. The technology was first introduced for liquid-phase extraction but has been extended to gas-phase extraction (headspace analysis).
