Direct coating

Eor the cover-coat direct-on process, a ferric sulfate [10028-22-5] Ee2(S0 2> etch is included in the metal pretreatment for rapid metal removal. It is designed to remove ca 20 g/m (2 g/ft ) of iron from the sheet metal surface. Hydrogen peroxide [7722-84-1/, H2O2, is added intermittently to a 1% ferric sulfate solution to reoxidize ferrous sulfate [7720-78-7] EeSO, to ferric sulfate. [Pg.212]

It may also be possible to crosslink the acrylic PSA with the help of multifunctional acrylates or methacrylates [87], These monomers can simply be copolymerized with the balance of the other monomers to form a covalently crosslinked network in one step. Since the resulting polymer is no longer soluble, this typ)e of crosslinking is typically limited to bulk reactions carried out as an adhesive coating directly on the article or in emulsion polymerizations where the crosslinked particles can be dried to a PSA film. [Pg.498]

Pressure sensitive adhesives can be coated on a substrate such as a polyester or paper backing to make a tape or label, or on a release liner to make a transfer adhesive, or a special substrate to make a graphic film or retro-reflective sheeting product. In some cases, where precision placement of the PSA is required, one may also coat directly on the substrate using techniques such as screen-printing. [Pg.511]

Salt spray test. The model coatings of Table I are of the high solid type used in automotive top coats. Their primary function is not corrosion protection since this is first of all a matter of phosphate layer, electrocoat and/or primer. However, the topcoats may contribute to corrosion protection by their barrier function for water, oxygen and salts. Therefore their permeability is important as one of the factors in the corrosion protection by the total coating system. We feel that a salt spray test of the model coatings directly applied to a steel surface is of little relevance for their corrosion protection performance in a real system. [Pg.113]

Nevertheless we did a number of tests of our model coatings directly applied to Bonder 101 panels. The panels were given a standard scratch just below the metal surface after which they... [Pg.113]

The actual temperature increase is more moderate because the BP filter head is covered with the collection fiber, another metal tube, and the protection coat. We also tried to deposit a dielectric coating directly on the distal end of the optical fiber. Several dozen fibers were held separately in a holder that was inserted into the deposition chamber and the filter was deposited with the usual process. In this experiment, the filter was successfully deposited on the end face of the fibers, but its properties were not constant. This seems to be ascribable to a localized thermal irregularity in the deposition chamber, which affected the temperature of the end face of the individual fibers. The low quality of the deposited filter at the circumference of the fiber end was also a problem. It seems that the layer structure of the filter membrane at the edge of the fiber end face was in disorder and this portion got into the core part. The thickness of the cladding was only 5.5 pm in our fiber. It may be possible to avoid this problem by employing a thicker fiber. [Pg.37]

The stationary phase can be a liquid or a solid. If it is a liquid, it can be coated directly on the inside walls of a capillary tube (column), or it can be coated on an inert solid support and be handled like a solid. In effect, then, there are three stationary phase configurations in the first type, a solid (with or without stationary liquid) is packed into a column in the second type, a solid is coated on the surface of a flat, plane material like glass (TLC), and in the third type, a liquid is coated on the inside wall of an open tube (OT). [Pg.169]

Figure 10 shows this effect. At the left side the topography and a line scan of the uncoated fiber reinforced material is shown. At the right side of Fig. 10 the roughness of the clearcoat, coated directly on the substrate and dried under varying conditions is represented. The higher drying temperature causes a more distinct surface structure. [Pg.45]

Another promising area for polymer development, as alluded to by Tirrell [5], is microelectronics. Plasma polymerization can be used to produce a polymeric coating directly on a substrate changing the composition of the gas feed allows a wide variation in the chemical composition of the surface produced [32], The same technique can also be used to modify surfaces for other applications, such as to improve the blood compatibility of biomaterials. The essential processes occurring in a plasma—mass transfer and reaction kinetics—have long been the domain of chemical engineers. [Pg.356]

Insulation easy bonding by use of a wide choice of glues (good resistance to aromatic solvents and ability to be coated directly with vapor barrier). [Pg.552]

Petschek [4] used heterocyclic rigid-rod polyionomers, including poly(pyr-idinium) salt, (III), and poly(benzimidazole-sulfonate), (IV), for coating directionally onto charged surfaces to impart planar alignment and pre-tilt to the surfaces. [Pg.225]

Gas chromatography may be divided into gas solid chromatography (mainly adsorptive processes) and gas-liquid chromatography (mainly partition) depending on whether the stationary phase is a solid or a liquid at its operating temperature. If the stationary phase is a hquid it must be coated on a support for packed coliunn chromatography. For capillary column chromatography, the stationary phase may be coated directly on to the walls of the coliunn, or on to a support which is bonded to the... [Pg.178]

The vacuum evaporation process and polymer slurry process are quite new relative to the others and have the potential to provide more control in the processing, in the case of the vacuum evaporation technique, or greatly reduce the cost and environmental concerns of pack aluminizing with the polymer slurry methods. The vacuum evaporation process allows one to diffuse other elements than A1 into the steels or to deposit FeAl coatings directly onto the surface of the steels, with A1 diffusion occurring to help bond the deposited coating. ... [Pg.186]

In order to compare the relative extent of the damaged surface corrosion and of the pitting corrosion, the percentage of the corroded area in the tested surface is used, and summarized in Table 28.2. It is important to note that pitting corrosion was found only on chromate conversion-coated controls (one with chromated spray primer and another with E-coat). It is also important to note that E-coat directly... [Pg.584]
