Diethylene glycol methacrylate

Succinimide-group-earrying latex particles are another versatile reactive support (12). The fraction of active succinimide groups on the particle surface was measured to be about 1% of succinimide monomer charged for the heterogeneous copolymerization with diethylene glycol methacrylate. [Pg.650]

Ahyl alcohol undergoes reactions typical of saturated, aUphatic alcohols. Ahyl compounds derived from ahyl alcohol and used industriahy, are widely manufactured by these reactions. For example, reactions of ahyl alcohol with acid anhydrides, esters, and acid chlorides yield ahyl esters, such as diahyl phthalates and ahyl methacrylate reaction with chloroformate yields carbonates, such as diethylene glycol bis(ahyl carbonate) addition of ahyl alcohol to epoxy groups yields products used to produce ahyl glycidyl ether (33,34). [Pg.74]

The DADC monomer has been copolymerized with small amounts of polyfunctional methacryflc or acryflc monomers. For example, 3% triethylene glycol dimethacrylate was used as a flexibiflzing, cross-linking agent with a percarbonate as initiator (26). CR-39 and diethylene glycol diacrylate containing isopropyl percarbonate were irradiated with a mercury lamp to a 92% conversion and then cured at 150°C (27). By a similar two-step process DADC was copolymerized with methyl methacrylate and tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylate (28). [Pg.83]

The y-radiation-induced grafting of diethylene glycol dimethacrylate and its mixture with (3-hydroxy ethyl methacrylate in ethanol-water systems onto silicone rubber has been reported [ 164]. The grafting yield increases as the radiation dose, concentration of monomer and concentration of transfer agent increase. At the same radiation dose, the degree of grafting decreases, as the dose level increases. However, at the same dose rate, the grafhng level increases with radiation dose. [Pg.871]

In this work, the kinetics of these reactions are closely examined by monitoring photopolymerizations initiated by a two-component system consisting of a conventional photoinitiator, such as 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenyl acetophenone (DMPA) and TED. By examining the polymerization kinetics in detail, further understanding of the complex initiation and termination reactions can be achieved. The monomers discussed in this manuscript are 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), which forms a linear polymer upon polymerization, and diethylene glycol dimethacrylate (DEGDMA), which forms a crosslinked network upon polymerization. [Pg.52]

The monomers studied, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and diethylene glycol dimethacrylate (DEGDMA), were obtained from Aldrich (Milwaukee, WI) and Polysciences, Inc. (Warrington, PA), respectively, and were used after dehibition to remove the hydroquinone inhibitor. 2,2-Dimethoxy-2-phenyl acetophenone (DMPA), the conventional initiator used in this study, was obtained from Ciba-Geigy (Hawthorne, NY) and the tetraethylthiuram disufide (TED) was obtained from Aldrich. [Pg.53]

Solvent effectiveness in the benzophenone-photoinitiated polymerization of methyl methacrylate was in the order tetrahydrofuran > isopropanol > toluene > benzene (46). In the case of TCMB, isopropanol gaw slightly higher polymerization rates than tetrahydrofuran, but both wore again considerably more effective than toluene and benzene. As might be expected, monomers which thonselves contain ether grouj , e.g. diethylene glycol diacrylate (7), do not require addition of a separate hydrogen-donor solvent for efficient photoinitiation by benzophenone. [Pg.72]

Other effective plasticizers for starch for imparting melt processibility include a variety of low molecular weight compounds, such as glycerol and diethylene glycol, and also polymers such as poly(ethylene-co-vinyl alcohol) [55]. Furthermore, starch plasticized in that manner can be melt blended with minor amounts of hydrophobic thermoplastics, such as polyethylene and poly( methyl methacrylate), to obtain biodisintegratable molded articles with good mechanical properties. [Pg.32]
