Diethylene glycol dimethacrylate

A process for the preparation of porous polyvinyl alcohol gels in three steps is (1) suspension polymerization of vinyl acetate with diethylene glycol dimethacrylate in the presence of a diluent as porogen, (2) saponifying of the resulting porous polyvinyl acetate gel with an alkali, and then (3) subjecting... [Pg.9]

The y-radiation-induced grafting of diethylene glycol dimethacrylate and its mixture with (3-hydroxy ethyl methacrylate in ethanol-water systems onto silicone rubber has been reported [ 164]. The grafting yield increases as the radiation dose, concentration of monomer and concentration of transfer agent increase. At the same radiation dose, the degree of grafting decreases, as the dose level increases. However, at the same dose rate, the grafhng level increases with radiation dose. [Pg.871]

In this work, the kinetics of these reactions are closely examined by monitoring photopolymerizations initiated by a two-component system consisting of a conventional photoinitiator, such as 2,2-dimethoxy-2-phenyl acetophenone (DMPA) and TED. By examining the polymerization kinetics in detail, further understanding of the complex initiation and termination reactions can be achieved. The monomers discussed in this manuscript are 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA), which forms a linear polymer upon polymerization, and diethylene glycol dimethacrylate (DEGDMA), which forms a crosslinked network upon polymerization. [Pg.52]

The monomers studied, 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and diethylene glycol dimethacrylate (DEGDMA), were obtained from Aldrich (Milwaukee, WI) and Polysciences, Inc. (Warrington, PA), respectively, and were used after dehibition to remove the hydroquinone inhibitor. 2,2-Dimethoxy-2-phenyl acetophenone (DMPA), the conventional initiator used in this study, was obtained from Ciba-Geigy (Hawthorne, NY) and the tetraethylthiuram disufide (TED) was obtained from Aldrich. [Pg.53]

For example, the selective reflection of a cholesteric mixture of derivative 1 ( 45 wt %)/monomer 2 (diethylene glycol dimethacrylate) covered the whole visible spectrum in a narrow temperature range i.e., the mixture was bluish at 20 °C, greenish at 30 °C, and reddish at 50 °C. Therefore, by successive photo-crosslinking of the liquid-crystalline sample at different temperatures through a mask, a colored picture or pattern could be fixed onto the resulting composite film. [Pg.141]

A dilatometric study was carried out on the polymerization of an anaerobic system containing diethylene glycol dimethacrylate, DMPT, CHP, saccharin, and iron filings. DMPT was more effective than A,A-dimethylaniline (XI), triethylamine, or tributylamine. Saccharin was more effective than benzoyl cyanamide (XII), phthalimide (XIII), or succinimide (XIV) [18]. [Pg.753]

Blends of EPDM rubber with GRT powders of 80 meshes in a proportion of 70/30 with three polyfunctional monomers including diethylene glycol dimethacrylate (2G), trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate (TMPT), and trimethylolpropane triacrylate (A-TMPT) were prepared and cured by the electron-beam irradiation of doses ranging from 25 kGy to 100 kGy (Yasin et al., 2012). The solubility of functional monomers in EPDM/GRT was ranked as A-TMPT > 2G > TMPT. The highest tensile strength was obtained in blend vulcanizates containing A-TMPT. [Pg.729]

Electron beam irradiation is another commonly used method to modify the surface hydrophlicity of microporous polyolefin membranes. In a typical process, a microporous PP membrane was grafted with acrylic acid and diethylene glycol-dimethacrylate (DEGDM) (Nasef and Hegazy, 2004) monomers using electron beam irradiation to create a hydrophilic surface. The modified membranes showed enhanced electrolyte uptake, ionic conductivity, and cycle life as compared with unmodified PP membranes. Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) (Kim and lim, 2010) have also been... [Pg.228]
