Domestic fuel oils are those used primarily in the home and include kerosene, stove oil, and furnace fuel oil. Diesel fuel oils are also distillate fuel oils, but residual oils have been successhjlly used to power marine diesel engines, and mixtures of distillates and residuals have been used on locomotive diesels. Heavy fuel oils include a variety of oils, ranging from distillates to residual oils, that must be heated to 260°C or higher before they can be used. In general, heavy fuel oil consists of residual oil blended with distillate to suit specific needs. Heavy fuel oil includes various industrial oils and, when used to fuel ships, is called bunker oil. [Pg.211]

The distillate manufacturing processes of diesel fuel oils, such as fuel oil 1-D and fuel oil 2-D, are similar to those of fuel oil no. 1 and fuel oil no. 2, respectively (lARC 1989). Fuel oil no. 1-D is manufactured from a straight-run distillate process. Diesel fuel oil (1-D, 2-D) is defined as the fraction of petroleum that distills after kerosene (Air Force 1989). Fuel oil no. 2-D is also made from mixing of straight-run and catalytically cracked distillates (LARC 1989). [Pg.119]

During 1977, Canada consumed 658 million barrels of petroleum products ( 1). Products marked with an asterisk in Table I -motor gasoline and light, heavy and diesel fuel oil - account for 80% of the total production, and represent the main potential for biomass-based liquid fuel in Canada, almost 522 million barrels per annum. [Pg.133]

Grades 1-D and 2-D are most commonly used in truck, railroad, and some stationary engines. Grade No. 4-D fuels are used in marine and certain industrial diesel applications. Fuel oil grades and their intended applications are outlined in TABLE 3-13. Federal diesel fuel oil classifications are provided in TABLE 3-14. [Pg.57]

Arctic grade diesel fuel oil is recommended for use in environments with ambient temperatures lower than -25.6°F (-32°C). It is intended for use in high-speed automotive-type diesel engines, pot-type burner space heaters, and nonaircraft turbine engines. It is not intended for use in slow-speed stationary engine applications. [Pg.58]

In federal diesel fuel oil DF-A, cetane improver concentration cannot exceed 0.25 wt%, and in DF-1 and DF-2, cetane improver concentration cannot exceed 0.5 wt%. [Pg.98]

A diesel fuel stabilizer containing a blend of amines, polyamines, and alkyl ammonium alkyl phosphate as specified under MIL-S-53021 is recommended for federal diesel fuel oil. This stabilizer is to be used at a treat rate of 25 lb/1,000 barrels. It is not intended for use in routine applications, but for situations where increased stability protection is required. Typical applications include fueled equipment undergoing long-term storage in a warehouse or depot, prepositioned equipment or equipment maintained in a high-temperature environment. [Pg.142]
