Separation density

Segregation. The problem of segregation occurs when a bulk soHd composed of different particle sizes or densities separates. The result can be quite serious if uniform density or mixed material is required for a process. [Pg.552]

General Principles There are two main types of mass flowmeters (1) the so-called true mass flowmeter, which responds directly to mass flow rate, and (2) the inferential mass flowmeter, which commonly measures volume flow rate aud flmd density separately. A variety of types of true mass flowmeters have been developed, including the following (a) the Maguus-effect mass flowmeter, (b) the axial-flow, transverse-momentum mass flowmeter, (c) the radial-flow, transverse-momentum mass flowmeter, (d) the gyroscopic transverse-momentum mass flowmeter, aud (e) the thermal mass flowmeter. Type b is the basis for several commercial mass flowmeters, one version of which is briefly described here. [Pg.897]

Although adsorbed carbonates on bone mineral and dentine can be easily removed by routine cleaning pre-treatment, the diagenetic fraction has proved more difficult and controversial. Attempts have been made to use sequential acid washing and density separation for bone, as described above, but, at present, the results are rather ambiguous. The carbonate fraction of dental enamel, however, has proved much more amenable, and significant progress... [Pg.368]

The effectiveness of the BSWS as a volume reduction unit depends largely on the solubility of the lead compounds in the washing medium, the efficiency of density separation for removing discrete lead particles, and the particle size distribution in the feed soil. [Pg.424]

Another option for density separation is a jig. The jigging mechanism involves pulsing air, water, or both through a bed of particles, which are thus rearranged. After several cycles of... [Pg.254]

Density separation processes exploit the differences in densities (p) of the particles to be separated. Fly ash is comprised primarily of two components aluminosilicate ash particles (p 2.1-2.4g/cm3) and unbumed carbon particles (p 1.8-2.0 g/cm3) with minor amounts of iron-rich spinel, commonly referred to as magnetite (p 3.0-4.5 g/cm3). Under ideal conditions, particles can be efficiently separated based on differences in particle densities alone. However, in continuous density separation processes, particle size differences induce separation inefficiencies that is, smaller, high-density particles behave similarly to larger, low-density particles. For this reason, narrowing the size... [Pg.256]

The two contributions have different dependencies on the photon flux density. Eor entangled photons the TPA rate is proportional to the flux density, whereas for classical photons it is proportional to the square of the flux density. These dependencies result in two different exposure regimes depending on the photon flux density. The critical photon flux density, separating these regimes is defined using the condition R = R2 ... [Pg.186]

The effective density of separation depends on the particle size and aspect ratio. As the particle size and aspect ratio decreases, the separation becomes more efficient and the offset between separation density and hydrocyclone medium density decreases. This findings suggest that for efficient density separation closely sized fine plastic fractions are required. [Pg.249]

Our recent development of a new procedure for the density separation of macerals offers a method for obtaining high resolution separation of the three maceral groups exinite, vitrinite, and inertinite, and can further resolve individual maceral types within these macerals groups, e.g., sporinite from alginite in the exinite group (1,2). The procedure... [Pg.71]
