Different methods have been devised to represent proteins. A structure for porcine pancreatic procolipase is reported in the Protein Databank, as determined by NMR spectroscopy. Many such structures are reported without the hydrogen atoms, since their positions often cannot be determined experimentally. Most MM packages will add hydrogens. Figure 1.18 gives the hydrogen-free procolipase structure in line representation. 

Biological raw data are stored in public databanks (such as Genbank or EMBL for primary DNA sequences). The data can be submitted and accessed via the World Wide Web. Protein sequence databanks like trEMBL provide the most likely translation of all coding sequences in the EMBL databank. Sequence data are prominent, but also other data are stored, e.g.yeast two-hybrid screens, expression arrays, systematic gene-knock-out experiments, and metabolic pathways. 

In the biosciences, a databank (or data bank) is a structured set of raw data, most notably DNA sequences from sequencing projects (e.g. the EMBL and GenBank databases). 

Swiss-Prot ia a curated databank of information on protein sequence, structure and function. It can be found under http //www.ebi.ac.uk/swissprot/. 

Tools. Tools guide the student in carrying out chemical calculations and graphing, and help them to explore periodic properties from different points of view. Flash and a large databank of structures allow students to study structure and function in three dimensions. 

This is the form employed by the carbohydrate databank CarbBank, and is preferred for most purposes. Each symbol for a monosaccharide unit is preceded by the anomeric descriptor and the configuration symbol. The ring size is indicated by an italic / for furanose or p for pyranose, etc. The locants of the linkage are given in parentheses between the symbols a double-headed arrow indicates a linkage between two anomeric positions. In CarbBank, omission of a/p, D/L, or ftp means that this structural detail is not known. 

In the case of IVDs that require the involvement of a Notified Body, data on performance characteristics, the results of performance evaluation and device certificates issued by the Notified Body must be included in the submission.
