Tools. Tools guide the student in carrying out chemical calculations and graphing, and help them to explore periodic properties from different points of view. Flash and a large databank of structures allow students to study structure and function in three dimensions.

The Tools of Quality. Quahty assurance also plays an important role in problem solving and process improvement. To do so, QA personnel must be knowledgeable in the many so-called tools of quahty (TOQ) and theh apphcation, so as to guide the efforts of process improvement. Many QA organizations are involved in training employees in these techniques to facihtate quahty improvement. 

Databases may be viewed as a research tool for those in highly competitive fields such as science, engineering, and technology. This tool makes information available so that its user can make decisions based on comprehensive and timely data (7). To help the reader keep abreast of these advances we present a list of useful WWW sites in this appendix. Realistically, this list should be updated on a daily basis as many of the tools offered on the Internet are made available not only by large organizations and research groups but also by individual researchers. Because Raman spectroscopy requires one only to guide a laser beam to the sample and extract a scattered beam, the technique is easily adaptable to measurements as a function of temperature and pressure. The safety status of the process should be periodically reviewed against the guiding principles for the original design. Monitoring of add-ons can detect potentially dangerous modifications. Process hazards analysis or process safety audits are useful tools for this review. Documentation of inherently safer principles is critical to ensure that future changes don t nullify the positive features of the initial installation.

Outside Fishing Tools. Outside fishing tools must pass over the outside of the fish before attaching themselves. The simplest of the outside fishing tools is the die collar, which is shown in Figure 4-357 with lipped guide. This is a short tubular that has case-hardened coarse threads cut in the inner surface of the tool. Such a tool is used to recover tubular items.
