Enantioselective Cyclopropanation. Enantioselective versions of both copper and rhodium cyclopropanation catalysts are available. Germanium [7440-56-4] M 72.6, m 937 , 925-975 , b 2700 , d 5.3. Copper contamination on the surface and in the bulk of single crystals of Ge can be removed by immersion in molten alkali cyanide under N2. The Ge was placed in dry cyanide powder in a graphite holder in a quartz or porcelain boat. The boat was then inserted into a heated furnace which, after a suitable time, was left to cool to room temperature. At 750°, a 1mm thickness requires about Imin, whereas 0.5cm needs about half hour. The boat was removed and the samples were taken out with plastic-coated tweezers, carefully rinsed in hot water and dried in air [Wang J Phys Chem 60 45 7956]. [Pg.426]

Evans et al. reported that the bis(imine)-copper (II) complex 25, prepared from chiral bis(imine) ligand and Cu(OTf)2, is also an effective chiral Lewis acid catalyst [34] (Scheme 1.44, Table 1.18). By tuning the aryl imine moiety, the bis(2,6-dichlor-ophenylimine) derivative was found to be suitable. Although the endojexo selectivity for 3-alkenoyloxazolidinones is low, significant improvement is achieved with the thiazolidine-2-thione analogs, for which both dienophile reactivity and endojexo selectivity are enhanced. [Pg.31]

Synthesis of aziridines by treatment of carbenes with imines was reported by Jacobsen [56]. Scott et al. [45] prepared diimine derivatives of 2,2 -diamino-6,6 -dimethyl-biphenyl (as structure 37 in Scheme 19) as copper chelates for the catalyzed cyclopropanation reaction. The above-described structures are the main representatives of the family of nitrogen ligands, which cover a wide spectrum of activity and efficiency for catalytic C - C bond formations. To a lesser extent, amines or imines, associated with copper salts, and metalloporphyrins led to good catalysts for cyclo-propanation. The deamination of primary amines such as phenylethylamine by Escherichia coli (Cooper et al. 1992) and Klebsiella oxytoca (Flacisalihoglu et al. 1997) is carried out by an oxidase. This contains copper and topaquinone (TPQ), which is produced from tyrosine by dioxygenation. TPQ is reduced to an aminoquinol that in the form of a Cu(l) radical reacts with O2 to form H2O2, Cu(ll), and the imine.
