Film and foil adhesives based on internally plastici2ed copolymer adhesives have been suggested. For instance, vinyl acetate—ethylene or vinyl acetate—acrylate copolymers may be used for adhesion of films to porous surfaces. For metallic foil adhesion, copolymers containing carboxylate functionahty are suggested. [Pg.470]

The demands on the PSA performance for these types of applications can be very high, especially in the areas of creep, shear resistance and long-term durability. For these reasons, crosslinked acrylics and stabilized block copolymer adhesives have become the main PSA material choices. [Pg.521]

Generally, systems developed in the USA favour a combination of polyethylene with either butyl-rubber or hot-applied mastic adhesives, the latter consisting of a blend of rubber, asphalt and high molecular weight resins. In European and Far East coating plants, epoxy type primers and hard ethylene copolymer adhesives have been successfully employed. [Pg.671]

A combination of infrared spectroscopy with size exclusion chromatography has a wide application range in the characterization of copolymers, adhesives, impurity profiling in polymers and branching in polyolefines [60-65]. Commonly, the solvent used as a mobile phase absorbs strongly in the... [Pg.231]

Adhesives and Sealants. Dominated by copolymers, adhesives and sealants remain somewhat of a specialty market. These polymers usually contain high copolymer content and low viscosity, and often require blending with oilier compounds prior to final application. Their uses are numerous, e.g., as seals for bottled drinks, as tie layers between incompatible polymers, or as automotive adhesives... [Pg.1141]

Uses. The uses of polytvinyl acetate) adhesive are packaging and wood gluing. PVAc copolymer adhesives are finding application in more diverse areas such as construction and adhesion to moie difficult to bond surfaces because of the range of adhesion and the flexibility that may be built into the polymer,... [Pg.1678]

Thermoplastic rubber block copolymers, with completely new adhesive performance, were developed in 1965 [21]. The first commercial product was Shell Chemical s Kraton 101, of styrene polybutadiene-styrene composition. This development led to the carboxy-terminated nitrile (CTBN) rubber modifiers used to flexibilize epoxy and other brittle resin adhesives in the late 1960s. Today, the thermoplastic rubber block copolymer adhesives are used in hot melt-, solvent- and water-based adhesives, and as hot melt- and solvent-based sealants. Major applications are as pressure-sensitive adhesives, construction adhesives and sealants, and general assembly adhesives. [Pg.18]

Poly(vinyl acetate) (PVA) and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer adhesives have much in common, yet represent extremes in the degree of sophistication of their production processes. Both products are stable suspensions in water of a film-forming polymer, the particles of which are generally spherical. They are made by emulsion polymerization, which uses a free-radical addition mechanism to polymerize the monomer in the presence of water and stabilizers. Vinyl acetate is the sole or major monomeric raw material. [Pg.712]
