Dr Georg Geisler is a product safety expert and modeller working with RCC Ltd, a Contract Research Organisation based in Basel, Switzerland. In this function, he conducts environmental risk assessments of pesticides, biocides and other chemicals, as well as safety assessments for pesticide residues in the food chain. In 2003, Georg Geisler earned his Ph.D. on environmental life-cycle assessment of pesticides at ETH Zurich. In 1999, he had received a Diploma in environmental chemistry at the Friedrich-Schiller University, Jena, Germany. 

Biocatalysts Ltd. is an independent company that since 1980 has been devoted to the manufacture and sales enzymes. Since it is not part of a larger chemical, food ingredients or pharmaceutical company, instead of producing large volumes of commodity enzymes, it produces enzymes tailored to customer needs. Their services include working together with customers to industrialize their processes or to produce specific required enzymes. Usually, these customer sectors do not require single enzyme entities, but enzyme complexes where the ratios of each of the components are crucial to the efficacy of the whole enzyme-biocatalyst product and to the customer s process. Fermentation requirements for the manufacture of enzyme products are sub-contracted out. 

The chemical found to be the most effective to date for the control of the mealy bugs is dimefox (bisdimethylaminofluorophosphine oxide). This is the active ingredient of the commercial product Hanane produced by Pest Control, Ltd., London, which holds a contract for investigation and control of swollen shoot viruses. Hanane is applied to the soil around the roots of the trees and a very significant reduction in the mealy bug population has been obtained by this method.

Commercial plants The first commercial plant incorporating CT-BISA with a 70,000-tpy capacity was constructed for Shin Nippon Bisphenol Co., Japan, and has been successfully operated since 1991, in collaboration with Nippon Steel Chemical Co., Ltd. This plant has been revamped by Chiyoda to 95,000 tpy in 1999. A second facility, with 25,000-tpy capacity for Taiwan Prosperity Chemical Corp., Taiwan, has been successfully operated since 1995. A third facility, with 70,000-tpy capacity for Mitsubishi Chemical Corp., Japan, started up in 1998 and has been revamped to 100,000 tpy by Chiyoda in 2000. In 2000, two new contracts have been awarded to CT-BISA Process, i.e., a 100,000-tpy BPA plant by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp., Japan and a 25,000-tpy plant by Bluestar, China-...
