Consumer market segments

With a total market of 9000-10 000 tonnes, the coatings industry is the main consumer market segment (Figure 9-3). Of this volume, 50% is used in the automotive sector for OEM and refinish coatings. Industrial and decorative paints are also important segments. [Pg.130]

Explosion-bonded metals are produced by several manufacturers in the United States, Europe, and Japan. The chemical industry is the principal consumer of explosion-bonded metals which are used in the constmction of clad reaction vessels and heat-exchanger tube sheets for corrosion-resistant service. The primary market segments for explosion-bonded metals are for corrosion-resistant pressure vessels, tube sheets for heat exchangers, electrical transition joints, and stmctural transition joints. Total world markets for explosion-clad metals are estimated to fluctuate between 30 x 10 to 60 x 10 annually. [Pg.152]

The use of vitamins in humans consumes ca 40% of vitamins made worldwide. The majority of the vitamins, particularly in countries outside the United States, are used in animal husbandry. It is well estabUshed (21) that vitamins are critical to animal productivity, especially under confined, rapid growth conditions. Newer information (22) has shown that vitamin E added to catde feed has the additional effect of significantly prolonging beef shelf life in stores. Additional appHcations of vitamins exist. A small but growing market segment involves cosmetics (qv) (23). The use of the chemical properties of the vitamins, particularly as antioxidants (qv) in foods and, more recently, in plastics (vitamin E (24)), has emerged as a growing trend. [Pg.9]

Since the introduction of the first polysulfide sealants in the 1950s, the sealant market had grown by 1992 into a 1.4 billion industry. Sealant use is generally divided into four categories transportation, construction, consumer, and industrial. Table 9 lists the market segment value of each use as of 1992 and Table 10 the market share of the various material types. Continued growth is expected, especially for silicones, urethanes, and acrylics. Table 11 lists suppliers of sealants. [Pg.313]

In health care the existence of a number of different sources of high quality and detailed quantitative market data for such analyses confers an advantage over many other industrial markets. This is not so in many other business markets, such as chemicals or other commodities, and is more akin to consumer market data. Hence it is possible to generate analysis of data at a high level of granularity at a quantitative level rather than having to rely on qualitative research based only on small samples of the market for the estimation of segments or, of product use. [Pg.40]

Despite epoxy adhesives finding use in many fragmented markets, actual consumption in volume is surprisingly concentrated in a few specific end-use market segments. For example, automotive assembly applications account for nearly 50 percent of the total volume of epoxy adhesives consumed in the United States. The highest-value market areas include structural automotive, aircraft, and many specialty product assembly applications. These market areas are also expected to enjoy the highest growth rates. [Pg.9]
