The four phases are Di thrust-related tight to isoclinal (Fi) folds and associated axial planar schistosity (Si). D2 tight-to-isoclinal folds (F2), with S2, are interpreted as high strain deformation with F1/F2 fold interference structure (Fig. 6) resulting in the development of SI/S2 composite fabric elements. D3 are recumbent and best developed in the west part of the BMC, and D4 are represented as kink-folds. [Pg.417]

Problems associated with the use of prepreg for composite fabrication included a high bulk factor and difficulties in obtaining an optimum resin pre-cure to ensure correct consolidation. One approach was to use pressure assisted resin injection, where a fiber preform contained in a mold was evacuated and a fairly mobile resin pumped in under pressure [64]. To help maintain the accurate alignment of the fiber in the perform, it was held in place by a resin binder made of about 4% polysulfone applied as a solution in methylene chloride, drying to remove solvent and then followed by a short treatment at 320° C to fuse the polysulfone onto the fiber. Next, a laminate of primed sheets was prepared, which was about 2.5 times the bulk volume of the finished composite (i.e., when compressed at 0.65 f/). Two techniques were used to consolidate a preform. [Pg.95]

As the recycled fuel composition approaches steady state after approximately four cycles (1), the heat and radiation associated with and Pu require more elaborate conversion and fuel fabrication facihties than are needed for virgin fuel. The storage, solidification, packaging, shipping, and disposal considerations associated with wastes that result from this approach are primarily concerned with the relatively short-Hved fission products. The transuranic... [Pg.201]

Improved characterization of the morphological/microstructural properties of porous solids, and the associated transport properties of fluids imbibed into these materials, is crucial to the development of new porous materials, such as ceramics. Of particular interest is the fabrication of so-called functionalized ceramics, which contain a pore structure tailored to a specific biomedical or industrial application (e.g., molecular filters, catalysts, gas storage cells, drug delivery devices, tissue scaffolds) [1-3]. Functionalization of ceramics can involve the use of graded or layered pore microstructure, morphology or chemical composition. [Pg.304]
